1·4 months agoLess transparent my ass. The first time you use any apple app it gives you a summary of the privacy implications, what data is collected, etc. that’s the exact opposite of your statement.
Google instead links you to their monolithic TOS / privacy policy which covers all their products and is super opaque.
Which oem and why?
One of the signal Devs has said they’ve already tested restoring cross platform with this new format
This new backup format is incremental and they will bring this new format to local backups in the future
Their privacy policy is good
That’s already released and only deals with recent changes. It doesn’t fix apps using strong integrity challenges
I mean that sort of thing is already a thing. For some cancers will will insert radioactive beads e.g. lover cancer (HCC)

1·10 months agoOn pixel 9 (and maybe earlier) grapheneos devices, you can just disable the USB c port which is more secure than apple’s pairlocking. Combine that with a self destruct pin/password, your data is bulletproof.

What does that even mean?

3·11 months agoRe: whatsapp, I’m pretty sure the android and iphone app use the same backup format. You can manually extract them by doing an unencrypted iPhone backup to your PC and extract the data from that. When I tested an iPhone a few years ago, I was able to move my whatsapp data after the initial setup with that. I’m pretty sure there are commercial tools that do the same thing too.

Is this true? I.e. Apple can ship notification contents after an app has made the actual notifications with contents? Can’t read the linked article behind the paywall
