  • It is absolutely possible to go on vacation without oppressing or exploiting others. It happens all the time. You can avoid Airbnbs and stay in a hotel, camp, sleep in a car, or just stay home.

I really don’t understand how you came to the conclusion that you cease possession of something the moment you end physical contact with it. You’re gonna have to walk me through that one if you want to actually argue that point.

  • Since no one is answering seriously, I will try. There is a distinct difference in anarchist philosophy between property and possession which I will try to explain with housing.

Property is something that is used to oppress people. Which is why anarchist philosophy aims to abolish all property. In this case, housing that is being used for Airbnbs takes a house from someone that could use it to create a home for themselves and their family and instead uses that land and building to make a profit .

Possession on the other hand would be someone using that land and building to make a home for themselves and their family, not to make a profit but to survive and exist.

Owning one home for yourself is not a property but a possession but owning multiple homes that you use to make a profit is property. So the anarchist solution to this is to give that Airbnb to someone who could make it into a permanent home, not a short term rental.

  • Metal is my favorite genre but it’s not something I can do at karaoke, it’s just not the vibe at the place I go to. Closest I’ve done to metal is Mother by Danzig lol

I’d still recommend just going there even if you don’t sing and just check out the atmosphere. Not every karaoke bar is as welcoming as the one I go to. There’s one bar down the street that I know does a lot of live metal music and does karaoke on Sundays but I’m unfortunately unable to go at those days.

But also to answer the post, I’ve been really into Testament and Otep recently. Somehow I’ve never listened to Testament until recently but they fucking rock!

  • I’ve been going to a karaoke bar every Saturday since the year started . I can’t recommend it enough.

A good karaoke bar is a great time. You don’t have to sing if you don’t want to. And if you do sing, it doesn’t matter if you suck or can’t sing or stumble your words or forget some lyrics. Going up there and singing is an accomplishment in itself and no one at the bar is going to boo you or kick you off the stage. Worst thing that happens is you get no applause at the end but a good bar with a good vibe will always have people cheering you on.

Going regularly and getting up there and singing and not caring if I suck has done so much to improve my confidence and self esteem. And trust me, I suck at singing but I promise you that it doesn’t matter. No one will care that you suck. If you go up to sing, just go and have fun with it.

  • There is an experiment in Russia that has been breeding foxes for over 50 years now. The goal is to understand how domestication changes an the physiology of an animal. They breed the foxes that show the most tame and docile behaviors towards humans in an effort to recreate the process of changing wolves to dogs.

On the flip side, they also breed the foxes that are most aggressive and hostile towards people. One day they will get too powerful and get loose…

  • While I’m not an expert in this area, it is also possible their cyber campaigns specifically target improperly defended industries. Attacking a target is much easier than defending one, that is true in every field and most industries don’t take their cyber security very seriously. A cyber attack that is funded and sponsored by a large state like Russia is sure to find many victims. Most industries are easy targets because they have thousands of people who are not trained in to defend against even the most basic of cyber attacks.

And of course only the successful attacks make the news, the unsuccessful one are never reported.

I don’t think so. Yeah the researchers broke the rules of the subreddit but it’s not like every other company that uses AI for advertising, promotional purposes, propaganda, and misinformation will adhere to those rules.

The mods and community should not assume that just because the rules say no AI does not mean that people won’t use it for nefarious purposes. While this study doesn’t really add anything new we didn’t already know or assume, it does highlight how we should be vigilant and cautious about what we see on the Internet.

  • Also many of these “vigilantes” are not doing this out of the goodness of their hearts. This is a popular subgenre of hate-porn on YouTube that gets a lot of attention. I wouldn’t trust anyone who does this for clout and attention to put in the work that is needed to ensure that they get the right person since you can just about fake any evidence on a YouTube video. This is the equivalent of giving a homeless person thousands of dollars and putting it on YouTube for views.

  • One of my favorite questions to answer; what’s the difference between a country, a state, and a nation. All 3 terms are used interchangeably but actually do have very specific meanings.

A country is the geographical region that includes the territories and borders of a state or nation.

A state is the governing body that operates and exerts administrative control over a territory or nation.

A nation is much more complicated and not as clear cut but in essence is the people who occupy a country or state. The bonds that create a nation can be different depending on who you ask and be a global world spanning bond like a religion or language or something small scale and local, like a sports team or a neighborhood block.

    Hope that helps
