  • I used to be able to just say “please download the materials from [learning platform] and organize them so you can work with them before class” and that would be fine. Nowadays I have to give step-by-step instructions that involve things like “create a folder”, “navigate to your download folder” and “cut (ctrl-x) the files and paste (ctrl-v) them into the new folder” unless I want half the students to get lost.

Some don’t even have a concept of downloading a file. They’re so used to streaming and mobile UIs that they seem to think that a downloaded file is simply gone once you close it (and needs to be re-downloaded).

  • My point was that catching Republicans in this seeming contradiction isn’t the “gotcha” that people think it is, because they advertise health and exercise for very different reasons, namely to strip away the last bits of public health insurance that Americans still have.

You’re probably right in that the left is more united about reforming health insurance than Democrats are overall. But it’s important not to miss the big picture.

  • Here’s the thing though. Democrats want this as an add-on to universal public health insurance, because health insurance is considered a universal right, and physical and health education help managing the costs. Republicans want it instead of public health insurance, because they consider staying healthy to be an individual responsibility that the state should not be involved in, and “just exercise and eat healthy” is their response to people complaining about cuts in the healthcare system.

  • Gimbap is Korean, but it seems plausible to me that sushi might have had an influence on it. But there are lots of differences between them. The rice is seasoned differently, and the fillings are more numerous and variable and also more focused on vegetables, both fresh and pickled, and usually meat (or tofu).
