Yeah my thoughts as well. I don’t mind having just one test. But to not have any kind of compulsory driving instruction with that one test is kind of crazy.
Tbh it kind of makes sense to have a part of Waka kotahi that organises the training with the test at the end.
If people want to have additional driver instruction to make sure they pass the test outside of that then go for it.
But at least with a central agency doing it, then everyone is theoretically being trained to the same standard.
This is a big WTF for me. NZ already has not great driving standards
It wouldn’t surprise me to find that prices change (increase) that reflect your spending habits. This already happens with hotels, plane tickets etc
Tbh I get 5 weeks AL a year (although only after 5years) so I’m really complaining about not much. I can take leave over summer like everyone else, but only every third year or so as there has to be somebody working

Oh for sure. It was more the 2-3 weeks off at summer that I was envious of. Although I know lots of people still have to work as well, so I can’t complain too much.

It’s easy to say the west doesn’t believe in anything. But society long predates any god.
There is a social contract that most who live in that society prescribe to and agree to follow to a greater or lesser extent. That’s what binds us as humans. Together we are greater than the sum of our parts. This is how we’ve thrived across our history and how we stand where we do today.

I’m not trying to say one option is good or bad, because there are merits in both arguments. It’s easy to say you’d do this or that when you’re spectating. But it’s much harder when you’re actually doing it.

I did come across a thread on Bluesky in which the author of an NZ traffic study seemed mostly in favour of the changes. So maybe I’m completely wrong. It just seems counter intuitive.
