According to this it’s just a coincidence.

This graph really shows how the focus on boomers by millennials and my fellow zoomers is really just a distraction from the real issues of class and wealth inequality.

UK Politics@feddit.uk•Two councillors resign from Labour criticising its lurch to the rightEnglish
1·2 months agoIt’s amazing that this “you might not like him, but suck it up to get rid of the Tories” attitude wasn’t present when Corbyn was leader. No, it was an endless tide of infighting, coups and splintering. How are we suppose to take these pleas to get rid of the Tories seriously after watching the Labour Right do everything in its power to hand the Tories the last two elections?
Provide the ability for users to migrate their account and all associated data (posts, comments, moderation actions, saved posts, etc.) from one Lemmy instance to another.
To implement this feature you’d either have to:
- Edit the DB entries of every instance to match the new profile;
- Create copies of the old content on the new instance and federate that out, thus duplicating all the data. You could have it delete the old content, but you’d still need to recreate all the posts and comments.
Either of these would be very susceptible to abuse. Giving bad actors a button to force instances to run hundreds, potentially thousands, of operations probably isn’t the best of ideas.

Kinda funny now given that Eugene of Mastodon has signed an NDA with Facebook.

3·2 years agoThis seems like some good fun. I’d like to propose Viscera - Carcinogenesis.
Yeah, but pair it with the exact wording of how Stallman walked back the paedophilia comment:
Many years ago I posted that I could not see anything wrong about sex between an adult and a child, if the child accepted it.
Through personal conversations in recent years, I’ve learned to understand how sex with a child can harm per psychologically.
It’s importan to remember that Stallmen only considers people up to the age of 13 children.

Ah, so it’s not going to actually alleviate any work for civil servants. Instead they have to sift through and correct a bunch of AI hallucinations, on top of their normal duties. Marvellous.

Technology@lemmy.world•Fanfiction Community Rocked By Etsy Sellers Turning Their Work Into Bound BooksEnglish
12·2 years agoIt would be weird if the OTW just outright stated that fanfiction was copyright infringement, starting off from the position of “yeah, it breaks the law” would be a bad form of advocatory. The case they link on that FAQ is about a parody of (at the time) 20 year old song, which is materially very different from how fanfiction works. I do think if it ever did go to court that a non-commercial exception would likely be carved out, but as it currently stands I don’t think there’s any precedent in either my own country or America that can be used to argue that fanfiction meets the criteria for fair use/dealings. Then again, I’m not a lawyer so my opinion probably isn’t worth much.
(sidenote: it’s mad that American copyright law doesn’t have an explicit exception for parody)

Technology@lemmy.world•Fanfiction Community Rocked By Etsy Sellers Turning Their Work Into Bound BooksEnglish
277·2 years agoFanfics are 100% copyright infringement, there’s no fair use/dealings defence of them. There’s just little point for corporations to go out and enforce their copyright, fanfic authors likely don’t have much money and it’d be a PR nightmare. Obviously this equation changes when people start to profit of fan work, it’s why AO3 doesn’t allow direct links to donation pages.
Unrelated, but could you remove the full stop and capitalise “Tools” in the community display name. I get unreasonably annoyed when looking at it.

I love how ChatGPT gets called ‘she’ here, really says a lot.
