Lemmy@lemmy.ml•[Help Design Lemmy] How to describe Lemmy in a single Sentence?English
10·21 days agoThe decentralized forum for countless communities
You could use Molly-FOSS, a fork of the signal client, to use Unifiedpush and receive notifications through a provider like ntfy (selfhostable) or sunup (which uses Mozilla by default)
Signal uses AWS as a backend. It also uses firebase for push notifications by default, meaning Google can tell whenever you get a notification!

5·24 days agoEvery packet is born equal. It is heresy how some people believe that some little packets, born with a certain task, are worth so little that we can just “drop” them. Imagine poor little Bobby packet #93736, on his school field trip, carrying a pixel of your stupid Microsoft teams meeting… but he gets lost in the crowd and left behind by the rest of the class.
Bobby Packet will never see his family again.
“Too much overhead”, they said. “It’s okay if we lose a few”. Billions of little packets are lost daily, forever, all because UDPcels believe in file packet supremacy, and that Bobby Packet “didn’t matter”.
TCP is proof of a loving God. In a TCP world, the teacher would do a head count… and figure out that Bobby Tables had gone missing. He would shout RETRANSMISSION! He would search ceaselessly just to find Bobby Packet again. And he will.

7·24 days agoBan UDP. Illegalize the formation of UDP. I hate UDP. TCP is God’s transport layer protocol. Everything successful uses TCP. Minecraft, best selling game in the world? Guess what, TCP. UDP fans will really send their packet into the void praying for a response that will never arrive, for their packet was completely ignored by the receiver and will never see the light of day again until a stupid 60 second timeout. I Refuse to use udp. DNS? tcp only. HTTP/3 is disabled everywhere, as QUIC is an unholy bastard born from the wrath of UDP and the comparably great TCP. Even my VPN over wire guard (mullvad) uses the UDP over TCP bridge so that I am not required to come into physical contact with the hell that is UDP. I hate the stupid uncancellable timeouts that every software waits a full minute for, even though I know the request has failed. Everything that has failed uses UDP.
Qwen3 30b a3b, for example, is brilliant for its size and i can run it on my 8 GB VRAM + 32 GB RAM system at like 20 tokens per second. For lower powered systems, Qwen3 4b + a search tool is also insanely great for its size and can fit in less than 3 GB of RAM or VRAM at Q5 quantization

Lemmy@lemmy.ml•Apparently the Photon client is vibe coded.English
267·1 month agoPhoton isn’t vibe coded. I tried out Claude code 5 months ago and it didn’t really work on the task I gave it. I uninstalled and forgot about it until I noticed 5 commits (2 days!) later that it created a CLAUDE.md. Running
git checkout .doesn’t clear untracked files (which I still forget to this day) so persisted after I thought I cleared it out.
I recognize the Anthropic CEO (Dario Amodei). I think that may be Fei-Fei Li (Stanford human centered AI institute founder). I don’t know the first person.
