Hey.
I’m Dan. A 36 year old father of two who doesn’t have nearly as much time as he needs to do half the things he wishes he had the time to do.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.ca•Does blowing on our hot food before we put it into our mouths actually make a difference to how hot it is?English
4·2 years agoYou’re right. But in the interest of no stupid questions I thought I’d ask anyway, because…you know, what if?.
And thanks for the grammar lesson, I didn’t ask for that one but I’ll take it on board.

7·2 years agoThank you.
I think I saw a show 20 or so years ago that tried to debunk this and obviously either they messed up, or I wasn’t paying attention.
(The show was called Brainiac).

7·2 years agoTurned 2 a few weeks back. I think we’re entering, or have just entered the terrible twos. Fun fun fun.

12·2 years agoSon broke my favourite mug. And he then threw my phone at my wrist, which hit my watch and scratched the phone screen. Yeah, its been a fun one.

5·2 years agoI’ve stopped looking at my notifications on Reddit, it’s just too anxiety inducing for me. Thankfully I’ve not had that same problem here, although I’m sure it’ll happen eventually.
Hope you feel better.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Would you watch the earth form from nothing to the current time for 500.000 $?English
3·2 years agoMaybe I could use that time to watch The West Wing? I’ve heard nothing but good things about it but…who’s got the time.

32·2 years agoI dunno, I could spend a good long while playing nothing but Football Manager if I didn’t have to worry about being anywhere else.

9·2 years agoI mean, is this in real time because I won’t lie, I bet there’s an awful lot of ‘boring’ mixed in with all the amazing moments.

3·2 years agoI think Farrell suffered a similar sort of thing as Brad Pitt did in the 90s in that he’s super attractive…oh and he was in that bad Daredevil movie. Aside from that I can’t remember him ever being the reason a movie was bad, and whenever I see him he’s absolutely fantastic.

5·2 years agoDon’t know about how it is in the US, but in the UK the idea of people rushing to finish their transaction fills me with dread. I’ve worked in a supermarket with self service and the general public really struggles with them.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•what was your favorite thing about your first car?English
7·2 years agoIt was the only of my three cars that hasn’t been totalled by a driver not paying attention when driving past it.
Yup. Two cars have been written off whilst parked down my street inside two years. Love it!

4·2 years agoBig Fish was one of the first movies I watched when I started really paying attention to what I was watching. And to this day it remains one of my favourites. Sleepy Hollow doesn’t get enough love either. Stellar cast.

111·2 years agoDon’t set yourself alight to keep yourself warm. Not always easy, but it is something I believe. You can only do so much if someone isn’t willing to help themself.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the last video game that you were completely hooked on?English
4·2 years agoThe last game that truly gave me the feeling you described is Lies of P. It was my favourite game of 2023 and the 60 or so hours I put into beating it were very well spent.

14·2 years agoI don’t for one second doubt that there’s some serious problems with Ofsted and how they conduct their inspections. I do however wonder if those being inspected are in the best position to decide if we need to blow it up.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is your idea of a perfect day off?English
3·2 years agoDefinitely spending the day
with my young children, going to a soft-play and then going out for a lunch filled with ‘no no no don’t throw that’ before we return home for a fun evening of 'daaaaaaady, daaaaaaaady’ entirely on my own in total silence apart from the sound of my TV with a videogame on, a fresh cup of tea in my mug and maybe a takeaway pizza on the way.

Parenting@lemmy.world•The great rewiring: is social media really behind an epidemic of teenage mental illness? The evidence is equivocal on whether screen time is to blame for rising levels of teen depression and anxiety.English
1·2 years agoI’m sure social media is having an effect on our kids. I’m also sure they’re more tuned into the state of the world than I was when I was a teenager, and they see just how utterly broken everything is.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why didn't Rugby take off in the Indian subcontinent?English
17·2 years agoMight also explain why Cricket is so popular. Obviously it still requires a fair amount of physical exertion but it’s definitely a bit more laid back than something like Rugby.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you usually purchase digital or physical books? Why?English
6·2 years agoPrefer digital because space is a factor in my house. I love the idea of physical, and I’ll usually go that way for art or reference books. However paperback equivalent I’m always going digital.
Although if I really love a book I’ll always look to add it to my bookshelf at some point.

I mean it was called Brainiac and it did have John Tickle walking on top of a pool of custard. Are you suggesting I was wrong to use that as my foundation for all knowledge??
