For the Americans: I’m the worst movie of all time. Hold my 65 million production cost.

Different than my memories, but that’s certainly it. Vielen dank!
Actually, this may be a good spot to ask. Recall a video where they were being chased down the street by fans until they end when they gave up and stood there fans ran right past. They were running after someone/something else. Don’t remember the song though
As an American that spent time in Germany ≈20 years ago, I feel this post was made just for me. Still find myself singing Manchmal haben Frauen in the middle of the day
Oh my God thank you. I’d been trying to think back to an animated short story about a house with no living humans going about it’s programmed life that I saw in school in the 80s. On and off for the last 20 years I’ve searched for Asimov, Clarke, even thinking maybe it was Adams, never considered it was Bradbury. There will come soft rains. 20 years!
I used to carry my kindle Paperwhite in my lunch bag, reading on breaks at lunch. Upgraded to a fold 7 this week and have been using that instead, it’s beautiful and I love it for daily reading and pretty much everything else I can throw at it. The Kindle app makes looking for new titles (unlimited has so many LitRPG) so much easier than on reader or PC. It’s truly changed how I do reading on the go.
Having said that at home I still prefer my kindle, not because of the screen, the size, the physical heft, soft leather case, extreme battery life, no those are all good reasons but physically not much different than my phone. No I prefer to use my kindle because I don’t get text messages, reminders about ongoing sales, emails, video streaming recommendations, none of that. I just get my book.

Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes@lemmy.zip•Which Soulslike will you be playing this weekend?
3·7 months agoNot a fan of the genre, Bloodborne killed it for me. But my brother has coerced me into trying Elden Ring so I picked that up in the steam sale, and we will see.
Have previously tried Nioh, BB, lords of the fallen, just can’t get the combat, but I am old so that could be a contributing factor

[Migrated, see pinned post] Casual Conversation @lemm.ee•I am afraid I can't replace my car anymoreEnglish
1·1 year agoI am with you on keeping it as long as you can. Have had two trucks that after I finished paying on I was fine with running as long as they would drive. Bluetooth adapter to get my phone on. Don’t need touch screen or heated seats or backup cameras.
With both my wife semi-forced my hand as she kept upgrading horse trailer, the primary reason for me owning trucks, until now I have a huge beast with a gooseneck trailer that I personally only put about 200 miles a year on. I think when it’s time for her car to be replaced I’ll take over the family car assignment and let her be the big truck person.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•(Religious) What would i be labeled?
7·1 year agoIgnosticism or igtheism is the idea that the question of the existence of God is meaningless because the word “God” has no coherent and unambiguous definition.

Technology@lemmy.world•Does anyone know what happened to the Surface Duo?English
4·2 years agoI’m still running my Duo 2 as my work phone, it’s fantastic for remote desktop sessions when I just need to restart a service or do quick tasks. The hinge doesn’t crease but you do get a gap in video that’s minorly annoying, but not a deal breaker. It’s great for teams calls with scrolling on 2nd screen for info or referencing material. It’s great for kindle, the book-like structure gives a pleasant feel while reading in two page format.
Unfortunately it isn’t comfortable for phone calls. And having a hard close means opening for texts and teams and quick items does become bothersome and tedious towards the end of the day. And knowing it was killed puts a clock on it and always keeps me looking for a replacement. It will eventually go to the same pile where I put my zune and Microsoft bands.
When it finally dies I’ll probably stay in the foldable format, Pixel or Galaxy. But I’m going to run it as long as I can.

Science Fiction@lemmy.world•I'm REALLY well read and I have a hard time finding new books to read. I need an audiobook for train ride->plane flight->bus ride tomorrow. Please halp!
2·2 years agoI’ve been doing LitRPG (the realityTV of fantasy) for a while now, if you’re into it:
Just started Battle Mage Farmer, less stats and more proper fantasy story, not as meta. But engaging, and a unique way to cap MC overpowering.
He Who Fights With Monsters, on the sillier side but it has a lot of heart and 80s movie references.
Primal Hunter, about at textbook LitRPG as it comes, but I like most of the characters, I guess. Slow build, I think it’s on book 10 and nowhere near Max level.
Fifth Era Apocalypse. Most likely to stem directly from a DnD campaign rather than SNES JRPG.
System Universe. Most OP protagonist, it has a very popcorny Fast and Furious just go with it style.
Mayor of Noobtown, I think it was my first, and still lots of fun.
Kingmaker. My most recent, not as good as the rest but it’s still early. Has time to find it’s way.
Nope. Ascend Online, more mmoLitRPG, and also reminds me that I dabbled in more haremy LitRPG stuff before, mostly stuff by Harmon Cooper. Kinda feel dirty about those.

6·2 years agoI’ll recommend David Wong’s Zoey Ashe books, similar to Scalzi in style, and I would say similar to Snow Crash in world build, but way less formal. Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits was terrific. Zoey Punches the Future in the Dick less so but still grand. And now I see a third one that escaped my attention and I’ll have to get on my phone for this week’s travels.
His John Dies at the End series is also incredible, but not quite the scifi you’re looking for. More Buffy/Supernatural style, well, in a Trey Parker/Matt Stone vein of Buffy, lots of dildo jokes.
And though it’s not scifi I’ll recommend the Gentleman Bastards series by Scott Lynch. Oceans 11 conmen caper in a LOTR world with dialogue by Quentin Tarantino. I recommend it to everyone, whenever I am given an opportunity.
Edit: And Peter Clines Threshold and EX series are both great. EX is a superhero spin on zombies, and threshold is a nice scifi-eldritch romp.
