2·2 years agoI’m not sure, but I think part of the problem is that the votes are “real”. Since every instance has to have the same number of up/down votes they can’t get away with fudging the numbers. I have no hard evidence that reddit does, but I suspect they do to increase engagement.

As far as taking scifi terms for real things, at least this one is somewhat close. I’m still pissed about hover boards. And Androids are right out!

How can you simply learn about a fact that doesn’t effect your life and just move on!? Get angry, be horrified, buy a weirdly long picket sign and go to every pride parade to express your discomfort and let it putrefy into a deeper bigotry
My dad is completely blind. In the past you’re correct that it would have been tactile, but they’ve gone to touch screens pretty universally. I can’t speak to android, but iPhones have really good accessibility settings. For the fully blind they have a setup with a screen reader where you can tap the screen and it says what’s in that section then you tap it again to actually click it. The more common way (at least for him) of using it is to drag your finger around the screen - each section will give haptic feedback and read it off every time your finger enters a new section.
Theuch bigger problem is smaller websites and apps that don’t bother going through the extra effort to define these sections in such a way that the iPhone can tell what it’s supposed to be reading or even where the section really is.

211·2 years agoNever tried. Apparently yes, but I sound like a child reading each word like, “yeah, that’s definitely’vested’ I’m sure!”. I doubt the next generation will except a few people.
I see your point, but I’m not sure I believe somebody could lie about it’s contents even in the distant future with how many legible copies there are.
On another note, this website exists which is super cool! https://www.archives.gov/founding-docs/downloads

The video was well researched and overall a very good description of life in salt lake, less so in other counties like st George. As he said in the video 80% of the population resides in “the valley”, and he didn’t really concern himself with the rest of the state. I also wouldn’t choose to live in Provo or Spanish Fork as a queer person despite them being in the valley, but I wouldn’t consider them dangerous or actively hide it there.
