Smart companies will allow remote work, and be able to recruit top talent that wants to work remotely. From what I’ve heard, Amazon is a terrible place to work in pretty much any non-executive role.

Probably some combination of doctors and a physical therapist. A good general practitioner should be able to refer you to someone.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Can a damaged hard drive slow down a computer?
6·2 years agoYou can check the data the drive itself keeps about disk errors. This data is called SMART.
https://www.howtogeek.com/134735/check-ssd-or-hdd-health-with-smart/
Figure out if the drive is having problems or not, then look at replacing it.
Another thing that slows down old laptops is thermal throttling. Once again there are plenty of programs you can download to check component temperatures. Have you cleaned dust out of the inside of the laptop and re-done the thermal paste?
The hat is neat.

81·2 years agoSo based on the other comments, I would check the cooler and anything else that was above the CPU to see if something got too hot and dribbled solder on the CPU. Also is the socket next to that drop clean, or are there other smaller droplets nearby?

Forgotten Weapons@lemmy.world•Early Pistol Red Dot Sight (1970s-80s)English
15·2 years agoModern micro red dots are mounted to the slide. And are designed to withstand the g forces from the slide cycling. They will hold zero for thousands of rounds.
The sight pictured here certainly would not be able to do that. But that’s what 40+ years of development in optics and materials will do.

Ask Electronics@discuss.tchncs.de•Any good beginner guides for identifying broken parts in a desktop computer ?English
6·2 years agoYour GPU might be having problems, but the other problems you list sound like either a bad hard drive or a virus / bad windows install.
There are several utility programs you can download that will check your hard drive for failures. I would back up any important files and then run those. If the hard drive is bad, replace it. Either way you will probably want to re-install windows from scratch.

5·2 years agoYou can do your own oil changes if you’ve got the time and tools. If not that, I’d find a local mechanic that you trust and get all your work done there.
Chain quick oil places usually get things right. But they don’t have the tools or skills to fix things if they mess something up. They also tend to employ bottom of the barrel people who tend to not care about their work.

Check your local Craigslist or other classifieds for cheap old GPUs. Or if you have another PC, borrow the GPU and power supply just to get it to boot.
