Except in most instances it’s not the buyer who pays the commission it’s the seller…

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If a criminal gets a life sentence in prison, then they die, then they come back to life, is their life sentence fulfilled and they can be released from prison?English
5·2 years agoNot sure how it is in other countries, but I always assumed that a “life” sentence at least in the US just meant anything over 25 years

Daystrom Institute@startrek.website•Vulcan Sex WorkersEnglish
3·2 years agoAs I recall on Voyager with a little coaxing Tuvok was able to use the holodeck to get “relief” so I’d imagine the same goes for most vulcans who might be on long away missions

Daystrom Institute@startrek.website•Vulcan Sex WorkersEnglish
11·2 years agoI always got the impression that Vulcan society operated similar to traditional Japanese or other societies where couples were “arranged” by families. Not sure about the one off cases though so maybe there is some kind of sex industry given the physiological toll if it’s not addressed in time
Mainly because sometimes a cigar is just a cigar and it should be enjoyed as such.

51·2 years agoEven then it’ll probably just be from one town to another very close by thus really only useable for a small subset of people. We need trans continental high speed railways not puddle jumpers

5·2 years agoThis. Only reason I use Brave is for my iPhone (which I am already planning to jump back to Android when it’s time for a new phone) because I can listen to YouTube videos/music in the background and no ads when going through the browser (another reason I’m going back to Android is for Revanced). Everything else is FF
And this is why things like pirating are not only acceptable but necessary. When companies lock services behind paywalls for products we should legally own, we are left with no recourse but to obtain the services we are owed illegally.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•My friend on social refuses to see how this is a pyramid schemeEnglish
4814·2 years agoWhile the authenticity of this is dubious, I don’t think OP knows what a pyramid scheme is…
Look up MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) schemes if you need a reference point.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Once a pirate, always a pirateEnglish
19·2 years agoYup. Pirating is about filling a need where companies sorely lack in providing services. When a company provides a shitty service or offers no viable alternative to obtaining something I would gladly pay for, pirating bridges that gap.

2·2 years agoIt’s not so much that they’re out of touch (though they are) as it is that they just don’t give a fuck. Any way to return a profit or bump the stock price a few cents is all that matters.

8·2 years agoI’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: We have a HUGE Apathy epidemic right now, and it mostly affects younger people (Gen Z on down mostly but some younger millennials too). I think this is mostly because they were born too late to realize that things don’t actually have to be this way and could in fact be better if people just…tried. But they’ve been beaten down and had the phrase “that’s just how it is/always been” beaten into them so much that they just stopped caring.
