  • Growing up, I didn’t like the taste of the yoke, and had a texture issue with the way most eggs were cooked. Supposedly I was also allergic but I think that was just a convenience. Now I love them. Every style

A big part of it was growing out of the texture issue. By the time I did that, I found had long dance grown out of any taste issues. But it’s also important that I was exposed to more ways to cook more eggs by more people. For whatever reason I was open to trying new eggs until I eventually went back and liked old eggs

Except egg salad. There’s just something about slimy egg bits drowned in a tub of mayo that seems too unpleasant to even look at

  • Yes, I’ve known many people on H1-B, including fighting for a few to be paid decently. Legally they aren’t supposed to be paid less but realistically many are, even at “good” employers. All it takes is categorizing them differently than someone else doing the same work.

While it makes sense that a work visa expires if you’re not working for a sponsoring company, it doesn’t have to be so disruptive to life. The expiration is way shorter than typical time to find another job - was it 30 days? Plus what about families? Is it reasonable to make a kid, say, leave school, leave friends, leave the only country they’ve ever known, with almost no notice? While you may claim that was the parents decision, what’s the alternative? Would you really ask them to give up their family to work in the us?

    I’ve know people on H1-B ….

    • who left family behind and only saw them once per year
    • who put up with abusive employers just so their kid could complete the school year
    • who’ve had to consider leaving their children with family so the could stay in the only country they’ve ever known

  • So we need to increase funding, to send them all to basic firearm safety training? Maybe the Scouts can run it for a merit badge - my kids knew better than that while still in elementary school school (slingshot safety training covered firearms years before they were allowed to touch them)

  • That’s not a typical occurrence.

The reality is that most people have insurance coverage, even if the cost is excessive, paperwork is excessive and there are too many coverage exceptions. And most people never encounter corporate death panels.

This is yet another “us vs them” scenario. Enough voters can say “at least I have better coverage than ….” That there is less pressure to fix it and too many people afraid of losing what they have.

Personally I have decent enough insurance (while I’m employed) that I would likely lose on universal coverage. However I’m aware of the total cost to myself and my employer, which is entirely obscene, and I realize it’s contingent on being employed, in an industry known for regular layoffs. I’m part of the problem since I’m “good enough” to not push for better, but also the solution since I would vote for universal coverage because I’m not a sociopath nor an idiot

  • Both great fun.

    • Flying can be expensive and highly technical depending on where you are and what you fly. I had a blast while flying, got some good trips in, was able to give most of my family the experience. I gave it up when I had kids because of the priority change
    • I suppose sailing too depending. I did some sailing out of Boston harbor and had a blast but they were bigger boats, more expensive. Actually the place I rented from organized extended trips down the coast and my regret was not taking any

  • What do you want from it? How long?

    • I always went with a barber for anything that looked like a traditional men’s cut, and that includes a variety of lengths.
    • any special requests, non-traditional or significantly longer, a stylist
    • I’ve had bad cuts from both barbers and stylists, all you can do is vote with your feet
    • realistically all the old barbers are gone and new barbers feature very short modern styles that I’m not interested in, so I go with one of the cheap salon chains
