Members of the public have reportedly caused confusion by removing stickers from road signs as the arrival of Wales’ 20mph default limit nears. Such tampering is thought to have led to the bizarre sight of a 30mph sign on one side of a Wrexham county road and a 20mph one on the other.
Simon Baynes, Tory MP for Clwyd South, shared a picture of the odd sight on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption: “Welcome to Welsh Labour’s chaotic 20mph policy in Bangor-on-Dee in Clwyd South, Wrexham.”

Worth noting that the county council in this area is actually run by a Conservative & Independent coalition.
I’m not from Wales, but in addition to the 20 mph and 30 mph signs…what’s that “40” number painted on the road itself? Is that a separate, third, speed limit marking?

That’s a speed limit painted on the road in the UK, and looks a lot like the “40” in the above image.
The 40 is clearly for the other direction…this is the boundary between a 20/30 and a 40 zone, surely?
That will be from before the 30mph limit was enforced, and the council simply haven’t removed it, either due to time or budget restraints.
Ah, thanks.
You know, looking at that, there’s what looks like the start of a driveway on the right there, and a parabolic mirror mounted on the hedge, which is normally used when there’s poor visibility around a turn.
I wonder how practical it would be, for that particular spot, to just move the hedge back a bit to improve visibility for cars coming out of that driveway.
