It’s not that I refuse, it’s that I’ve tried many times and failed.

It’s a comfort food my mom made when I was a kid, she called it simply beans and hamburger, but it was far from simple. By the time I thought to ask her how she made it, Alzheimer’s had taken her memory. I tried scores of times over the years, and never got it right, so I finally gave up and made my own version that was purposely different so as not to remind me of my failure.

Brisket. I don’t have the time, equipment, and patience to smoke meats for hours.

Chinese soup dumplings. My friends and I got together to make some and boy did they turn out…different than we expected. I watched YouTube videos before that explained why they are hard to get down, especially the folding part but, yeah, I think I’ll just pay the $3-8CAD for a bag.

I’ve made homemade sushi before… it’s actually really tasty and not too difficult. Hardest part is getting the rice right.
