Super Mario Bros. (also known as Super Mario Bros.: The Movie) is a 1993 science fantasy adventure film loosely based on Nintendo’s Mario franchise. The first American feature-length live-action film based on a video game, it was directed by the husband-and-wife team of Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel, with a screenplay by Parker Bennett, Terry Runté and Ed Solomon and distributed by Buena Vista Pictures through Hollywood Pictures. It follows brothers Mario (Bob Hoskins) and Luigi (John Leguizamo) in their quest to rescue Princess Daisy (Samantha Mathis) from a dystopian parallel universe ruled by the ruthless President Koopa (Dennis Hopper).

I unapologetically love this movie. It’s not a particularly “accurate” movie for the games it’s ostensibly based on, but it’s so wildly ambitious and out there in the best ways. It’s a shame everyone that made it had such a horrible time, but I’m still glad it exists.
Looks like it got taken down :/
Really? It is working for me, just now. Did you click the link, go to archive.org, yes? (It doesn’t want to load directly in here, but that’s a piefed/lemmy thing, not a problem at archive).
Yeah I went through the article linked and it said it was removed from the archive due to copywrite. Here’s the link I found that ended up working in case anyone else gets stuck
