It’s really good. Got an almost perfect score shooting five stand. I like a circle-dot reticle for it. The key is to keep both eyes open, acquire the target as quickly as possible and focus on it. Then, all I had to do was put the big circle-dot in the flight path ahead of the clay.

For home defense and drone defense, I think this setup is the way to go.

I love my red dot shotty once I got the comb height right. I think the bead traditionalists are just traditionalists. It still requires proper frame and aim, but a big circle “PUNCH HOLE HERE” seems pretty great for defense.

Not to speak for Sickos but the comb is the top of the stock and if it is adjustable you can set it to the right size height for your face to get a good cheek weld e.g. where your face contacts the stock to develop a natural point of aim. A bead site is a small lump at the end of the barrel for aiming a shotgun, they don’t typically use a front and rear site like you might be thinking of. Sometimes they might use a very large rear ring with a front sight and this is called a ghost ring because the rear will appear blurry but still aid your aim like a 2-piece siting system. Traditionalists I assume refers to stubborn attitudes that dismiss red dots as new fangled nonsense.

          Correct on all counts.

Since you normally look straight down the top of the shotgun barrel, adding a red dot increases the sight height, so you need to raise your face higher as well, which is what I mean by “comb height increase”. It’s a chunk of plastic or foam or wood that sits atop the stock so your eye aligns with the red dot when you mount the rifle.

Yeah I agree, I taped a big foam comb on top to get the cheek weld right. I got the lowest mounting red dot I could find. That plus a Limbsaver buttpad makes it very comfy to shoot a long session. Probably makes me less flinchy too.

I say just get a Holosun 503, or really any Holosun that has the features you want. Keep an eye on the gundeals reddit for stores advertising “email for price” to get a deal below Minimum Advertised Price (MAP).

The common belief is the Sig Sauer Romeo5 is just a rebranded Holosun 403 made in the same Chinese factory. I’ve had another more expensive Sig Sauer red dot fail on me though.

Sig Sauer Romeo5 for ~$120 new, that is very capable but just a red dot not a circle-dot. Bushnell TRS-25 for around the same price but that doesn’t have shake awake. I haven’t looked at options in a while but it looks like Sig and Holosun both offer circle-dot options for around $200.

Very cheeky grin on that huntress, she looks like she’s having a blast posing for the portrait. I haven’t fired a shotgun but trap, skeet and five stand all sound like a lot of fun. A friend who went trap shooting said he broke most of the clays without any experience and credited it to FPS games and aiming just as you described. I don’t have a use for a scattergun but I might have to reevaluate.

I dropped my shotgun in the parking lot on my way to the skeet field and the plastic bead shattered. My scores have not changed at all. I feel like people overthink shooting clays.
