  • What do you want to do? If you’re mainly going to party I could suggest Thailand, it’s got one of the most developed tourism economies in the world, it’s basically a year round party destination for young people from every part of the world. It’s a bit “edgier” Japan or China but if you’re looking to go to clubs, meet people and generally have a fun time in a tropical paradise as an 18 year old, I don’t think there’s anywhere better on earth.

  • I can’t find any statistics that directly identify any increase in crimes committed by children and teenagers.

What I did find is that the number of children in Young Offenders Institutes is falling.

What I can say for certain is that we now have access to millions of hours of footage of things happening that we never did before. Just looking at your examples, if you believe gangs of teenagers didn’t shoplift 10, 20, 30, 40 or more years ago, you are completely wrong. What didn’t happen in the 80s and 90s or even the 00s was footage of this stuff didn’t become part of the public conversation because we never saw it. This makes it seem like it’s a new phenomenon.

As for child killers, there’s examples in every generation of it happening, and it’s thankfully still incredibly rare.

Every generation has said “ooh, these kids are awful nowadays”.

For about 90% of the country, this winter has been among the wettest on record.

    Rainfall map UK winter 25-26

3 counties saw their wettest on record (since 1837), 16 more had top 5 wettest and 41 more had top 10.

And just so people don’t think this is an outlier and not part of a wider trend:

    Wettest winter on record

For almost the entire UK, the wettest winter on record was within the last 15 years.

  • The Wire. It’s the best piece of visual media ever created. Not only is it the best portrayal of the inner city drugs trade but also the decaying institutions and social structures that allow it to flourish, and the corrupting influence of dirty money.

It also is consistently the best written show on TV and is grounded in it’s reality better than anything else. Half the cast were complete unknowns, in many cases plucked from the streets of Baltimore itself and there are standout performances all across it’s vast and diverse cast.

It’s a little slow to get going, the first few episodes have a lot of ground to cover to get the viewer up to speed, it also makes no effort to ease the viewer in, with a lot of jargon, slang and some very thick accents to content with, there’s also no “previously on the wire” to go over key points from earlier episodes so it definitely requires more participation from the viewer than most TV but it’s all the better for it.
