EU doesn’t have any legal tools to deal with this situation. Hungary has veto right. So it can veto any attempt to remove its veto. (Not an expert, but that’s what I heard) But if Orban is gone, there is still Slovakia. And now my home country Czechia :(

The memory issues got reálky annoying, so I switched to Fedora two weeks ago, since I found somewhere it is recommended for my laptop. It has a few minor issues like no working fingerprint sensor or I encountered some issues with GPU being slow. Playing 4k 120fps 60Mbps videos from a GoPro were lagging, but I can live with that 🙂

I have meant goverment tracking, police shouldn’t have access to this data without a permission (but don’t know, if it is true). Also, people don’t know about the tracking, and would be surprised if they would discover this. In China they know they are tracked by everything by companies /government. That’s the difference, in the west people at least expect to have a privacy.
From what I heard, in US or EU people are supposed to have some privacy, they have a right to privacy. Police should get a warrant to be able to obtain information about you. And if those are violated, news articles are written, people get outraged and sometimes someone is even punished. In China, you have no right to privacy. Everyone knows the government is following their every step, every action, and they are ok with having no privacy.
My opinion on China is also mixed. On one hand, their policies seem reasonable, they do not engage in proxy wars, support green energy, etc. On the other hand, workers have desparate lives, threaten their neighbours, restrict much more freedom of citizens …
I know. But it is so much work to switch and I plan to replace my laptop some time in (hopefully near) future. Since I don’t have space on my disk, I would have to first determine, what files to keep, transfer them, find a OS that works with my laptop (I tried to dualboot when I got it, but there were issues with touchscreen, stylus, nvidia GPU, etc.), setup the system … It’s just too much for me right now.
I wouldn’t blame AI, I would say that overall the US is becoming more and more anti-science overall. Just look how people are against vaccines or flat-earthers. Even academics are leaving US because of funding cuts by the current administration. Schools are in bad shapes…

I wouldn’t be so dramatic. Transferring an eSIM is only a few clicks, there is no need for searching the little thingie to open SIM compartment, no searching for the right hole to stick it into, no fear of losing the tiny SIM card during the process. I would say the transfer process is pretty hard, mainly for older people or people with bigger fingers. On the other hand, you still need the operator and his servers and proprietary code for the SIM to be useful (unless you are building your own network).

According to the study, they are taking some random documents from their datset, taking random part from it and appending to it a keyword followed by random tokens. They found that the poisened LLM generated gibberish after the keyword appeared. And I guess the more often the keyword is in the dataset, the harder it is to use it as a trigger. But they are saying that for example a web link could be used as a keyword.
