Is the best method still to dual boot?
No, the best method is Windows or Mac…
i didn’t want to do that, so just i changed to Darktable. It’s more ppwerful then LR but that power brings a bunch of differences.

Technology@lemmy.world•What are your technology mispredictions?English
3·1 month agoEverything ? I though MS Office woukd fail becase no one will want to close source their data files, i was using an Amiga at the time at home and the file format was standard and you chose the app to use
It started there and just progressed, Apple was a big one, people won’t buy into their closed wall’d shenanigans. Wrong again.
Messaging, what a debacle that has turned into. I assumed the system would be standardised and the fight would be over the front end for interoperability, wrong again.

World News@lemmy.world•The long shadow of the one-child policy: China pays for its biggest social experiment with a demographic crisisEnglish
7·1 month agoShort version - there’s too many elderly people in China and not enough working age so the economy is suffering
More children is never the answer becase all that does is kick the can down the road, in 30 years time they’d have 3 billion and a shit ton more elderly, so wjat then doibke down and make even more kids ?
We can already see if we empower women and let them choose they’ll mostly have 0,1 or 2 kids. The only other solution is to force women to breed and have no choice (religious scum fuckery). Even the nordics with way better supoort for women and childbirth etc are still less then 2.1
We’re better off learning lessons from xenophobic counties like Sth Korea and Japan and seeing what solutions work in regards poulation degrowth, becase every country will eventually face this issue
This contlstat framing of less people on the planet as a bad thing is ridiculous, should we have 1000 billion and all stand shoulder to shoulder ? How tobdecide ? there is some sort of sustainable level, why not let those expert in the area advise us ? if you do that, the number is less then a billion. Classical and neo liberal Econonics should play no part in the debate.

Technology@lemmy.world•China’s ‘artificial sun’ breaks nuclear fusion limit thought to be impossibleEnglish
151·1 month agoit was one of the most important breakthroughs to date in fusion
What ? It was not really. Here’s a physicist discussing why.
https://dothemath.ucsd.edu/2023/08/fusion-foolery/
In the end, the NIF fusion accomplishment might be called a stunt. Stunts explore what we can do (often after an insane amount of preparation, practice, and failure), rather than what’s practical. Stunts hide the pains and present an appearance of ease and grace, but it’s a show.
The “more energy out than laser energy in” equation masks several fundamental problems. NIF’s doped glass lasers have an efficiency of about 0.5 percent, meaning that they would have sucked in roughly 400 megajoules of energy from the grid in order to produce the 2.1 megajoules of light energy…
To be fair the hype machine was from the press not the scientists
Let’s pause to say: well done! Honestly. No sarcasm. What they did was ridiculously hard, and it finally worked after more than a decade of trying. They actually produced a significant number of fusion events! There’s no faking that, and I’d like to see you try. So let’s be clear that I’m not knocking the accomplishment in itself. My major beef is how we interpret the implications for society.
But thats the same with everything, Mastodon and X as well.
Hell, even Governments like mine here in Australia use that shitty platdorm. Why there is no gov.au Mastodon server I don’t know.

World News@lemmy.world•U.S. Approves $45M Hellfire Missile Sale to Denmark Despite Active Threats to Seize Greenland | Defense ExpressEnglish
21·1 month agoThey can never buy enough Hellfire missiles to stop an invasion by China, Russia or the US. They’d be better gifting them all to Ukraine.
Similarly here in Australia with our ridicluios Submarine purchase, this is chest thumping theatrics.
That aside, fuck Denmark and their MDGA views on immigrants. Their white Denmark policy is appalling.
