Its important to note, that while the ISBN matches Brute Orbits by George Zebrowski the description doesnt. A truly deep mystery, its almost like someone created a fake image and posted it on the interweb for laughs.

I’m sorry, but it really bugs me that the small domino is a fucking war. While the big domino is depicted here as the AI bubble bursting.
At a minimum, it’s a * poor use of the meme *, but really the priorities are just way out of whack.

Opensource@programming.dev•Best CAD software for open source hardware design
5·1 month agoI think FreeCAD has potential. It’s not there yet. I’m trying to learn it but I’m getting a lot of grey in my beard and have been using Solidworks at work so long any new friction is frustrating.
For PDM/PLM. I’ve been looking at this recently. It also is not ready.
https://github.com/grd/FreePDM
Its more work to setup but I am of the opinion parts should have drawings to show critical dimensions. Drawings should have rev blocks describing differences.
There are issues to this approach, but it solves a lot of problems.

Linux@programming.dev•Those who've switched to Linux in the last year, how is it going?
7·1 month agoI switched to Nobara a couple months ago. My computer is a lot snappier. Overall its great. Some minor difficulties but no show stoppers.
Signal desktop gives me an error that it is keeping credentials in plaintext which is fucked, I tried to get it to not do that but havnt been able to figure out how. (there are tutorials for ubuntu/gnome, but I havnt figured out how to translate those to fedora/kde…
I just started using crow-translate which is amazing, but keep getting a screenshot error message. Something with wayland maybe? again when I search there is a lot of shit about ubuntu/gnome but that doesnt really help.
How do kids write? I know I will go back and forth over the same well formed letter to make it look scribbly.

21·2 months agoThere are plenty of troops that just repair cars. Maybe those cars get used for murder, maybe they don’t. It’s a complex moral problem that is different for everyone at different levels.
By saying fuck the troops, you are falling into the trap the owners want. You are focusing on pawns rather than the kings they want to be.

I met a guy preaching the carnivore diet bullshit. He was actually a pretty nice dude, not a right winger just fell for the silly carrots are poison nonsense. I didn’t even bother to point out bioaccumulation / biomagnification, I was too preoccupied trying to understand where these insanely stupid ideas come from. I heard through our mutual friend he abandoned those ideas.
There is definately overlap with political chicanery. Super weird.
Oddly it was the first thing to pass through my mind too for some reason. How do you make a dip political ?
Garlic. Lots of garlic.

16·4 months agoIt bugs me that there is this generic description of ‘files’ and I don’t think I’ve heard discussions of what to expect. Funancial records? Client lists? Blackmail material?
We know big banks helped him by not reporting transactions they were legally required to. If the financial records aren’t released it’s bullshit. Always follow the money. Name and shame those who proffited from him.

Technology@beehaw.org•Elon Musk’s Grokipedia launches with AI-cloned pages from Wikipedia
2·4 months agoyeah, the back end is the scarier part. I don’t think conservapedia actually added that much content, it just copied Wikipedia and edited the parts they cared about. Automating that, while helpful, isn’t that big a deal IMO. Disseminating the resultant bullshit (with a hint of plausibility) is where the nightmares begin.
