Today's #FinishOrFrogAlong project is one I forgot to put on the list! This is a Chillow Collar that I knit earlier in the summer and hadn't gotten around to blocking and sewing the clasps on. It's drying now!
Today’s #FinishOrFrogAlong Q&A: Do you use anything to keep track of your WIPs? What do you use? Notebook, project tags, software, Ravelry, something else? Why or why not?
Putting the question out there - are any fediverse peeps going to be at Wisconsin Sheep and Wool? I’ll be there every day taking classes. Would be great to meet up if you’ll be there too. #knitting #FiberArts @knitting @fiberarts #spinning #crochet #wisconsinSheepAndWool #HandSpinning
I don't enjoy knitting fine-gauge colourwork on DPNs, so I knit the cuffs/legs of these socks on the machine, then switched to hand-knitting for the plain stockinette feet. And of course, I blogged about it :)
Despite multiple issues with the way the pattern was written, I'm really happy with these finished socks! They're thick, squishy, and warm. (And yes, the legs are the same length when one sock isn't turned sideways.)
Finally finished my new summer top with flower side panels. The #knittingpattern for a square version of the flowers on the side panel (called Hana coasters) is available via Ravelry and Payhip:ravelry.com/patterns/library/hpayhip.com/b/rIuPn#knitting @knitting
One question I've been meaning to ask is whether there is a term/technique for knitting colorwork in the round in such a way that avoids the jog, like you see here.
It really feels like autumn today, i.e. so baking an apple cake is a good idea. Here it is with my Pear Potholders. The free knitting pattern is available on my blog: knitting-and-so-on.blogspot.co#knitting @knitting
Yesterday's read and knit. The sweater is coming along. I've repeated the cable chart once now so I can look at the knitting instead of constantly checking the chart, but I haven't memorized it yet.
Finished the main parts of a second cotton summer top with flower side panels. Now only very short sleeves are missing. The knittingpattern for a square version of the flowers on the side panel (called Hana coasters) is available via Ravelry and Payhip:ravelry.com/patterns/library/hpayhip.com/b/rIuPn#knitting @knitting
Finished! The decreases after the heel turn are unusual in this and the bias ribbing wants to sit differently on my foot so I don't know that I'd recommend the pattern, but I do like the final look!
I'm thinking about #knitting a lightweight hiking jumper this winter. Something light and roomy I can scrunch up into a pack and throw on to get out of the elements up to ~13000'. Does anyone have any pattern recommendations? It would be my first body fitted garment, besides hats, mittens, and socks.
This weekend I finished knitting a ✨ bralette ✨ which kind of ✨ fits ✨ but really the main attraction is the yarn. Look at it!! It's glorious and, I'm happy to tell you, also ✨ soft ✨@knitting
If you have unwanted sock yarn scraps, I'd be happy to take them off your hands so that I can make more 1-row/helical stripes - I'm having so much fun with this technique!
#wipwednesday I’ve been neglecting my knitting (too busy with sewing hexagons!) but the baby hoodie has at least grown a bit since last week #knitting @knitting
Usually I just do the same toe and heel on my socks, but this time I am following the pattern. The toe is swirly and the heel doesn't have a bulky heel flap or picking up stitches.
Knitting a second summer top with side panels based on my Hana flower motifs. Currently, I am knitting the back piece..The pattern for the square flower motifs is available via Ravelry and Payhip:ravelry.com/patterns/library/hpayhip.com/b/rIuPn#knitting @knitting
An arthritis flare-up in my left hand, especially my thumb, had stopped me knitting for the past 5 weeks.I started my cowl for Skein Yarn’s Accessories KAL on 1st June. The KAL finishes 31st July.Last night I knitted a few rows without too much pain. Big question - can I do the remaining 49 rows then Kitchener the ends together by then?(Yes, I'm using my beloved DPNs, I honestly don't like circular needles...lol).
Winter Rhythm Cowl (draft) pattern by Cecelia Campochiaro knit in Annapurna (80% wool, 20% cashmere) from A Verb For Keeping Warm in Au Naturel and Honeycomb. I received the pattern as part of a class Cecelia taught at @fibrespace in November 2023.
Last week’s WIP baby jumper is all sewn up - looks a bit of an odd shape but this bell rib pattern is very stretchy so should look better on! #knitting @knitting
Finally finished this Nautilus Shawl! It's been almost finished for a while, but with the birthday recipient coming over yesterday, I got it finished and washed. Didn't have time to do a good picture, but here it is, spread out on my bed. The colorway is Pictured Rocks, by Megan Nico on Etsy.
Finished the back yoke for the Manhattan cardigan by Xiaowei Design. First time trying any sort of cabling, and am doing it without a cable needle. It is going slowly, but a very fun knit so far!
Here's a knitting story that I was recently reminded of, told by Frances Hamerstrom, a scientist and environmentalist from the middle of the last century who I got to know while she was still doing wildlife research in her late 80s, and still living in a large house in central Wisconsin built in the 1850s that never had indoor plumbing installed.
One last post about my #CowParade project. At the urging of some fiber artist friends, I created a written pattern for it. Here is a link to the free pattern, should you have a compelling need to knit a stranded colorwork sweater for a life-sized cow. : ravelry.com/patterns/library/a
Latest baby cardi is done! I don’t usually like garter stitch but the unusual shaping makes this a bit more interesting - from Vibe Ulrik Sondergaard’s Lullaby Knits book #knitting @knitting
I promised myself I wasn't going to buy any more fleeces until I worked through what I already have, buuut I couldn't resist this Gulf Coast Native fleece from @SandHillThicket
When you run out of ideas what to knit. Friends and family have all the socks, hats and mitts they'll ever need. The wardrobe and drawers are overflowing. Enough wash and dishcloths to fill a whole washing machine.
Started my KAL cowl using Skein Yarn’s Solstice Kit - Blackberry & Stone I’m loving how it’s knitting up.(Yes, I'm using my beloved DPNs, I honesstly don't like circuar needles...lol). Pattern is ravelry.com/patterns/library/v by Andrea Mowry.skeinyarn.com/
Joined the back and front pieces for my giant cardigan project. It already barley fits in my knitting bag, I can see why the designer (Anne Ventzel) calls it a cocoon.
Who needs something silly & totally ridiculous in their lives right now?? I offer you scenes from the blocking of the sweater I designed and knitted for a life-sized fiberglass cow.
Question for @knitting : what's your favorite way to increase on a purl row? i'm working on a pattern that asks me to increase on both knit and purl rows and I'm not as familiar with the purl increases.
I am trying to knit a summer top with my Hana flower motifs as side panels - currently I am grafting the second side panel to the top's back. #knitting @knitting
