“Books were only one type of receptacle where we stored a lot of things we were afraid we might forget. There is nothing magical in them, at all. The magic is only in what books say, how they stitched the patches of the universe together into one garment for us.” Professor Faber

  • Not all of these are social media sites, but this list is my social internet path

Bolt dot com & SciFi channel chatrooms

    AIM & Yahoo chatrooms

    ICQ & IRC

Soulseek (I count it because I used to hang in the chatrooms quite a bit)

Eyeball chat, then followed friends to Camfrog chat, before both were enshittified

    MySpace

    Facebook and dabbling in Instagram

Reddit, left after Apollo went offline

    Mastadon and dabbled in Snapchat

    Threads

    BlueSky, still here

    Lemmy then Piefed, still here

  • Good advice, the extended movie is better and that low point I think is important to the story.

I wanted to love Afterlife. I didn’t see it in theaters, but after the reaction to Answer the Call, I was so excited for a new Ghostbusters movie that I bought and watched it the day it came out on iTunes. I cannot emphasize enough how much of a disappointment Afterlife was. I have not watched it a second time and I have no interest in watching Frozen Throne.

I grew up on Ghostbusters movies and cartoons from the 80-90s. I just get so mad that the new ones forgot what a Ghostbusters movie is and I feel robbed of a sequel ATC.

  • Yep, I met my partner through OKC just before they enshittified. I also had used it to meet folks when I travelled for work. I had a note on my profile that I travelled a lot and just wanted to see new cities and eat good food. Surprisingly, I had far more platonic meetups than creepy guys trying to hook up, which I stated I wasn’t looking for in my profile.

I was a very very early adopter of OKC. I remember when it was more of a social media website with quizzes and badges than just dating. I’m still friends with a few people I met there in the early days.

  • Games: Epistory and Nanotale. Both typing games from Fishing Cactus. Absolutely beautiful games that have interesting stories and you get to practice with your typing skills. I love both of these games so much.

Tv: Sliders. It was fairly popular when it was running and got kind of weird at the end, but I love that show. It was one that my family got together to watch every episode each week when they were on broadcast. I was also part of an early online petition to save the show and move it to the SciFi channel. I was also part of the early online petition to save MST3K, back when online petitions actually worked.

Movie: Ghostbusters Answer the Call. People will disagree with me but I unapologetically DGAF. That movie is hilarious and I love putting it on when I work out. It’s a far better Ghostbusters movie than the last two garbage ones that were put out. It has everything from the original: dark adult horror comedy about scientists who save the world. The last two were not true GB movies, they are family friend teen coming of age movies with a plot that depended so heavily on nostalgia that they felt like a crappy cash grab. ATC is my second favorite GB movie behind only the original. Holtzman is my hero!

  • It’s NJ, it’s intentional. There are sidewalks in small towns, but almost no sidewalks outside of them. On most roads like 38 and 541, you literally have to walk on the grass next to the road. Public transportation is surprisingly decent for a US state, specifically going from South Jersey into Philly is really easy.

Source: I grew up there and walked everywhere. It was terrible.
