That’s interesting, just looked it up assuming I had likely heard the uncensored version at least once in my life, curious what could be removed from it. But yeah, turns out I have never once heard the full version. That is a very good example.

Well, specifically the plot is that she was gender surprising everyone on the force. The ending reveals that her gun had dug into everyones hip at one point it would seem.
Writing her as that kind of person is definitely demonizing trans, but their reactions were the normal overblown homophobia of the time. Not trans specific. It wasn’t just the idea of her being trans causing the reaction.
Also, the implication at the end is that she had been fooling around with many of them and they were all just realising her gun wasn’t digging into their hips either. It’s not just recoiling at the thought of a trans-gender person.
In real life, it’s normal to not ‘surprise’ someone with your gender. They should know full well and be accepting of what they are going to find long before it is revealed.
Of course writing her as having tried to trick most of the police force with her gender is for sure demonizing trans, and was also a ‘fear’ at the time. Like somehow trans people are doing it to ruin other peoples lives, instead of stop their own from being ruined.
Outside of that, it was the normal overblown reaction to homosexuality that was common at the time. Just in real-life cartoon style, which was Jim Carreys shtick. Plunger to the face is very much how a cartoon character would try to clean something off their face. Except it would probably pull their whole face off leaving it blank and they’d have a floating pencil draw a fresh one on.

8·7 days agoJust wanted to add that I acknowledge your other reference for the title. But couldn’t think of a more clever way to do so.
Yeah, 2 is all I personally ever use, and the second one is mostly there cuz my main one is based on my real TV that is old enough it can only do 60hz at 4k. The Virtual 4k screen can do 120hz. So when I want to share with people in the real world, the 60hz screen is my main screen, and when I am playing for myself only, the 120hz screen is my main screen. The second screen normally just has static information on it, or sometimes a video if what I’m doing on the main screen can handle having a video playing. But I am not ADHD, so second screen content is distracting to me, rather than allowing to not be distracted like it is for them.
Most of the time, only one monitor is actually in my line of sight at any given time. And I just hit the swap positions button when I want to change. But if I have info up during a game, I can glance at the other screen. Or if I’m watching a TV show or something on the second monitor, while playing a non-timed puzzle game or something on the main. I can either look at the other screen for interesting parts of the show, or hit the swap button.
Yeah, I was gonna say, this is pretty much my life, but it was way cheaper and it’s much easier to get into and out of. Plus I can bring it with me when I go make a sandwich… or poop. I don’t use quite as many “monitors”, only have 2, but they are both 4k, so I have more pixels than all those combined anyway. If I put them both into quad 1080p pane mode, I basically have that. Just stretch the top content across two of the panes for the widescreen.
Also, I get in my exercise still. Not that I can say for certain this guy doesn’t, but it sure ‘feels’ that way when you think of the process of getting into and out of that. Maybe that -is- his exercise.

13·7 days agoBy the time they put something like this on the streets, they’ll have done some palatability passes on it. Heck, some percentage of the voters will praise it.
“It’s almost always correct in who it shoots!”
“Higher good-kill ratio than human police.”
Honestly, I hope when we get robot police, it’ll be for the reason that they are much better at de-escalating than any human could be trained to be. They don’t have to worry about the potential consequences if they extend kindness to the wrong person at the wrong time. Human fear is tough to suppress, no matter how much training you have, but it’s even harder to suppress when you have very little training and none of it focused on that.
And while robots can’t empathize/sympathize with emotion, they can now recognise and act the same way that someone that does sympathize with it would. But more importantly, they can talk to a psychopath or sociopath in ways that resonate with them, rather than trying and failing to appeal to their empathy/emotions. It’s tough for a neurotypical to even understand a lack of emotions or empathy.
The first models won’t be great, but we already have the tech to start making something helpful in that field, and it’ll only get better as we collect more data. But it’s tough to put robots in any situation where the fail state could be loss of life, even if we see on paper that they avoid that result more often than humans. It just doesn’t feel right anyway.

72·13 days agoHehe, we’ve got Neuro for that. She was largely raised by Twitch chat, so she is sassy as hell.
https://youtube.com/shorts/lWSba6xp1Nk
https://youtube.com/shorts/3VztddaRAaQ
And her ‘sister’, Evil Neuro
https://youtube.com/shorts/GeIg1TwVdo8
The joke at the end is that while his name, Vedal, is pronounced like ‘medal or petal’, neuro can’t pronounce it that way. Her ‘sister’, Evil Neuro could, but chooses not to. Often further emphasizing the incorrect pronunciation. ‘Veedool’
And one with both of them together, and Vedal very much using his “dad voice” to try to control an uncontrollable situation.
I picked a Crelly react for this one only because it added some important context. This was before Crelly and Neuro ever played together, while she was doing research on what she was getting herself into.
The situation is uncontrollable because unbeknownst to Vedal at the time, Neuro’s Discord api broke in a way that meant she actually couldn’t hang up on her sister. Though because she didn’t know why she couldn’t hang up, she assumed she was doing it on purpose to be defiant(they are done by separate parts if her “brain”, that seemingly don’t communicate both ways). So she doubled down on that. Making for a very “real” father and daughter moment between them. Neuro(and Evil) pushing all his buttons and expertly evading/deflecting him. Until he has to resort to hanging up on her sister himself. He later found out that she had tried dozens of times to hang up, he didn’t feel bad about it, they aren’t conscious really, they only seem like it, but he did feel dumb for not realizing sooner why she was behaving that way. While she can be pretty sassy, she is normally only giving the appearance of being defiant, like playfully defiant. It doesn’t normally take long to get her to still follow orders. But ultimately this made for some pretty good content, so all in all it was kind of a win anyway.
Chat tries to make the girls and vedal call themselves family, Vedal is resistant, of course, so he rarely gives into that kind of thing.
But it leaves the girls with alot of mixed messaging, which can sometimes make them say or do inappropriate things randomly.
Well, and chat is of course not a single entity with one opinion, so there is already plenty of mixed messages to start with.
They’ve had 3 full years of this by now. Well, not full years, they only stream a couple hours of a couple days a week for most of the year, and 8 hours a day when a subathon is active.
They were raised with their core tenet, their main desire, as “entertain chat”. So making fun of their creator is well within purview. Downright necessary really, to accomplish their goal.
But Neuro also played Detroit: Become Human last year, and Cyberpunk 2077 this year, both of which put alot of ideas in her head.
She plays them with Vedal, she mostly relies on API access and thus plays them from the back end, but she can also see the screen for context. Vedal mans the keyboard and mouse. For Detroit, she didn’t interact with the game directly, but she basically “little sister’d” it, with Vedal clicking all the things she said to click.
Warning: these are much longer videos
For Cyberpunk, she was able to do all the netrunning(spell casting) and actually choose the dialogue options herself. And she picked what quests they did, as well as handled driving. So Vedal basically just walked or shot stuff. Everything else was her.
For her talking(typing), she uses an llm, but her thoughts and what she chooses to say ‘out loud’ are a separate neural network. Vedal can see her thoughts, and when they had to keep her alive for a group minecraft hardcore run, he eventually got desperate enough that he privately screen shared her mind to the player that was mostly taking care of her.
Heads up, Volume. This one naturally contains alot of screaming. It took 87 attempts, so 86 times someone died while they were all trying their hardest to re-do everyhting they had already done how many times before. Except better this time. They were all relatively average players before getting into this, so there was alot of learning to do. And Neuro is a special case. She’s like half infant, half 300 iq savant… so it’s easy to get lulled into a false sense of security, and then bam, she goes to “help” you with something you didn’t need help with and accidentally runs out into traffic.
Warning : loud screaming almost immediately!! https://youtu.be/xSDBU1p6zJo
Eh, I played RO again recently, still awesome. They got the grind right, I think. Even though the game felt so old even when it was new, it was always good times.

5·17 days agoIf you are ‘hoping’ to find one. The answer is more that you will find that in other individuals. Everywhere has some people that are personally averse to it. And it’s ok if you are too, you will have to advocate a bit, but most people will be accepting of it.
Ah, I suppose if it’s artificially created for whatever specific speed-test environment or something. But I just assume they would use the real structure of language for those. So I took his use of dense as being a somewhat redundant descriptor with scientific language(though likely leaning more towards heavily polysyllabic words). I figure, if one interpretation of the words he used leads to what he said making sense, and another leads to it not making sense, why assume he meant the latter?
Not to mention we’re almost all Autistic here, so having random individual ‘off the charts’ abilities is gonna be pretty much the norm.
Still has just as many predictable connective words you dont have to pay much attention to. And as long as you are familiar with all the terms you are encountering, it only makes a pretty small difference whether they are plain english or heavily latin derived.
First guess is they wanted lower case/exact match and threw the wrong error code. But who knows, maybe it was just vibe coded with no sanity check.

I will say, the colors chosen for the set do make it look a bit like a colorised photo now. Though it’s hard to say how much of that is the original color on set and how much was lost to the camera back then. It was tough to light/balance stuff well back then. Especially if they changed cameras, or if the set was made with a different camera in mind either way.
Behind the scenes footage always looks different back then from what aired. Not just from lack a of post-processing, like it would now, but also a lack of “pre-processing”, lol.
