Fediverse@lemmy.world•Is the bot/troll situation getting worse?English
73·2 years agoAnother place I frequent got rid of the downvote so if people actually disagree with you they have to use words to make their point. Kinda funny how that solves a lot of issues.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What is your prefered way to get audiobooks/podcasts/ebooks for your audiobookshelf?English
3·2 years agoI find them online and use javascript to rip them into a text file and use @Voice premium on android to read/listen to the text files. I got the premium @Voice because I didn’t realize how much of a staple having an app that can read most types of files was going to be.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why do some TV broadcasts show a person translating it to sign language instead of using subtitles?English
7·2 years agoI mean, there wasn’t enough information to be certain… but live broadcasts of things would have a signer because the live audience would have to bring in screens to add subtitles to the event…

22·2 years agoWait, you mean you don’t like how algorithms and ads have evolved to almost be content at this point. You don’t want a bunch of for-profit ads suggesting you buy things you don’t need? Lol, you’re not in it for the cash grab? :OOOOO WHAT!?!?!?!?!

Work Reform@lemmy.world•How contractors using a fake Philly address endangered workers and dodged accountabilityEnglish
2·2 years agoI mean, it looks like an article about stricter regulation on contracting companies in a specific place… which in general could be considered work reform. In terms of how this aligns with the communities goals… lol (probably the point you were making). Just speculation though, not OP.

31·2 years agoI was a fan too, but lost the portable version I was using when my usb died. The version I pulled off git now freezes every 10 seconds and closes itself down a lot. Not sure how they made it worse but it’s worse now.

Yeah that’s the one that gets me. People use it to say something without having to commit to having said it and/or attempt to reduce the weight of an action. Just make more money, just work harder, just work faster, just don’t worry about it, just calm down. Pretty much minimizes the context the person they’re talking to comes from like whatever they’re suggesting is so easy no one should have to think about it.
“Just don’t use the word just!” lol
Using it as a shortening for justice doesn’t bother me for some reason xD

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's a word you've spent a long time not using right?English
41·2 years ago“just” was meant to indicate a recent position in time. As in “just now.”
Even a pencil can be used as a weapon if you’re clever ;) but I try to refrain from telling other people how to live their lives.
unpopular hexbear because seeing both sides of the propaganda broadens my critical thinking more than echo chambers, yes-men, and logical fallacies being thrown my way instead of supporting data

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the skill/talent you have that you get praised for but you fiercely keep as an hobby/interest with no plans to expand on it?English
4·2 years agoIt depends where you could get in. People with insurance seeking therapy out for themselves are awesome. That kind of job probably pays enough and respects their employees. Don’t get anywhere near anything to do with Medicaid if you value your salary, your self respect, and your mental well-being.

Isn’t it interesting that it’s taught as supply and demand, and not demand and supply?
