  • So we’re to show no authority against billionaires and their enforcers (police) and validators (law workers/politicians) because it might go too far? Slippery slope claims tend to just reinforce the status quo since it stops people from doing anything functional. The status quo is definitively authoritarian.

Not saying that it has to, but is there an example of “without being generally authoritarian” out there in the wild somewhere? Because imo every country on earth uses authority to uphold some class structure and my country, even if we had all the things we wanted to make us happier (affordable housing, free medical care and education, public transit, etc) it would still show authority over the global south to maintain itself.

  • Do you ever have the issue where FLAC files play at a slower speed than they’re supposed to? Maybe I just need to update firmware or something (though I haven’t been able to access the fiio forum to download it in a couple days which is super frustrating)

Whoops. It was an adblocker issue. I updated and it’s all good now. 😅

  • Hello fellow film industry abandoner! I never went to film school, but I did briefly join the editors union in LA prior to the industry imploding shortly after lockdowns in LA. I switched to contract commercial work and, while it’s been far more soul-sucking, at least it pays the bills. I no longer live in an industry city, so I’ve been trying to find my footing in a career that doesn’t treat (and pay) a former union editor like a youtube editor (no hate on youtube editors, that work seems extremely tedious and they deserve to be paid more). But maybe I’ll just break down and become an electrician if my client work ever slows down.

  • I have a modded iPod video as well as a Fiio Snowsky Echo Mini. Both work pretty well for me, though both have obnoxious flaws. The iPod can technically play FLAC files through the Rockbox OS, but it’s wildly sluggish with high-bitrate songs, sometimes even crashing the device in the process. The Echo Mini has an issue with some(?) FLAC files, playing them about 20% slower and at a lower pitch than it’s supposed to, but only for a couple japanese albums (I can’t find anyone else online with this issue, so it might just be something affecting me). Playlist management is kind of a pain on both, but the scroll wheel of the ipod is vastly superior to the buttons on the Echo Mini.
