There was another woman I think about sometimes who was very upset about maga hats and I thought she was overreacting. I also owe that woman an apology

News@lemmy.world•Nebraska lawmakers vote to reduce minimum wage for workers under 20
2·2 days agoMy partner showed me this a couple years ago. Now, we’ll be talking or I have a thought and the conclusion is “America” to which the follow-up is “want to put it on?”
It hits me harder each time I watch it especially how things have further eroded since then
Edit: I was curious and checked out the comments. They were surprisingly wholesome but I didn’t scroll too far. However one sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole and I found something that made me do a double take:
From:
https://allthatsinteresting.com/jim-crow-photos
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_W._Geary"A racist pro-Clymer campaign poster for the 1866 governor's election."

The text from that image reads
THE TWO PLATFORMS
Every RADICAL in Congress VOTED for NEGRO SUFFRAGE. Every RADICAL in the Pennsylvania Senate VOTED for NEGRO SUFFRAGE. STEVENS, FORNEY & CAMERON are for NEGRO SUFFRAGE; they are all Candidates for the UNITED STATES SENATE. NO RADICAL NEWSPAPER OPPOSES NEGRO SUFFRAGE GEARY said in a Speech, at Barrisburg, 11th of Angust, 1866-“THERE CAN BE NO POSSIBLE OBJECTION TO NEGRO SUFFRAGE”
It’s the writing style. If that is the type of material that one reads in their formative years it makes sense that it’s emerging again in the twilight years
Ps. I’m sorry I spent so much time on this it just struck me and I had to explore. Made me sick at some points. To be clear, I support everyone’s right to vote but the above quoted message was demonizing that sentiment. Also to be clear, Geary was a white man and won that election
I have a problem with this step
When I send it to QA the sample that I take to make sure it’s correct tends to be too big and throws off my recipe

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Japan cancels cherry blossom festival over complaints of tourists littering and ‘defecating’ in yardsEnglish
7·2 days agoI had the absolute fortune to make my way through there at the end of last year. It was so bizarre to me that for the most part people are left alone to follow the rules with no oversight
And for the most part I saw everyone behaving well and not doing anything stupid; except the group of people trying to take pictures of a bison who was clearly unhappy about how close they were getting. He was grazing and would walk away a couple steps and they would follow. The boi was swishing his tail and showing what I saw were “leave me the fuck alone” signs and I had to at least shout to the people to leave him alone and they were fucking idiots. I was HOPING that they got charged and had some sense knocked into them
My partner and I had had discussions previously about what we’d do if something like that was about to happen and the kiddo in the car. If it’s just us adults then we’ll stay and watch the carnage but we’ll take off if they’re with us
It’s the same sentiment with The Onion and Black Mirror. Having to take a step back because reality is too absurd

I’m kinda high and read this and was thinking “conjugal” and was like “oh yeah sure, that makes sense.” But then I realized it made no sense at all. But I’m still 100% on board

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do horses allow humans to ride on their backs?
81·7 days agoBigger yes, dumber no. It’s like saying dogs are dumber than cats. They’re just different and “smart” at different things. I don’t see packs of tracking cats going out on search and rescue missions

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do horses allow humans to ride on their backs?
5·7 days agoAwww I loved that! The horse was weirded out but mostly ok. His body language was calm and he followed her when she walked away, which is a sign it respects you and sees you as someone to trust and follow

I’m not smart enough to figure out how but I also haven’t had to look for a long while (knock on wood). The current barrier to entry would cripple me

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Let's talk about clickbait and sources when postingEnglish
1·10 days agoI’ve noticed that trend, especially with high-volume posters
Some things are posted with substance and other times it’s just a link to a pic of a random artefact in a museum. Ok, it’s cool looking but is it significant? Not that that matters but if you’re going to post something at least include why. Other than “I hit random”

Walter Masterson, check out his videos. He was at the Capitol on Jan 6th, he goes to maga rallies dressed as them to interview people. I wish some of the people he goes with were on YouTube, but I think they’re only on all the socials and I don’t use them
Also if you know of other channels like this can you please share? I’d really appreciate some recommendations of activists

4·12 days agoOh yeah 100%. I actually bought a tote of them a few years ago from a second hand store. I was thrilled because it’s a couple sets all thrown together. There’s a castle with a catapult and boulders, a couple frontier buildings, bits of another set
They absolutely smell the same as they did many decades ago when I had some as a kid

And plenty of people with grey/white hair enjoy and love it
