7·2 days agoYes absolutely it does. If you use Google Photos or Apple Photos they will handily identify every instance of your dog’s face. It’s not quite as accurate as people, but they’re perfect capable with little effort.
If you’re wondering if the game was made any deeper and more engaging then no. But they have added a great many new side activities to do. The game was built upon horizontally rather than vertically.
So if you had the game at launch and lived every second of it and just wanted more, you’ll be very happy.
If you had the game and launch and were let down by the lack of depth the game offered, you’ll won’t get much out of it today either.
I’ve started fresh a number of times with these updates and unfortunately what that does is just highlight how disparate and tacked-on many of them are. They do not make for a coherent, well integrated experience at all. I’m certain it’s a better experience to just be a long time player who logs back in for every update.
You can absolutely call a game people have played for over a thousand hours shallow. No idea why you think you can’t. Lots of very shallow games have dedicated user bases with thousands of hours.

9·4 days agoI think you’re just confused about how Matrix works.
Synapse is Matrix itself. It is the reference home server implementation.

Technology@lemmy.world•Discord Alternatives, RankedEnglish
122·5 days agoNo.
The main point that needs to be addressed is the requirement to upload your face or government ID. This exodus has nothing to do with Discord not being Open Source.
If you’d rather stay on Discord and give them your face while you await the “perfect” solution to materialize you are free to do so. But I think everyone else just needs something purpose ready that doesn’t ask for their face. Then when a fully functional, self hosted, open source solution appears they can reasses.

27·5 days agoMatrix sucks pretty bad at federation. But if you run a single closed server internally it works just fine.
It’s not the text chat they’re referring to. An annoying amount of open so it be projects use Discord as a replacement for forums specifically.
Maybe, but let’s deal with one crisis at a time

5·6 days agoYes I am one of the vast majority of people who don’t have a very strong association with one of the several different names for one of the worlds less distinct animals.
And unless Stoat the software is content with appealing only to a few galaxy brained individuals like yourself and dying in obscurity, they would be smart to pick a more marketable name. One that has universal understanding and appeal, very simple concept. Or at least one that sounds better to the ear.

7·6 days agoIt is not. Stoats are not a very commonly talked about animal species. Their name isn’t even consistent across regions.
I had to look up what a Stoat even was because I only know them as Ermine, and in North America it’s called a short tailed Weasel. It’s not an animal you’re likely to even see much as they are rarely kept in captivity, and aren’t something you’re very likely to see in the wild in NA even though they’re native here. They have precious little pop culture representation either.

61·6 days agoIt’s not a question of intelligence, it’s a question of recognition and partiality.
That’s not very compelling imo.
That explains why nobody has consulted you before launching a brand.
Most tech names are nonsense to average person, yet they succeeded just fine.
On the contrary, most successful tech names are very recognizable and attractive to the average person, and the ones that weren’t were less likely to succeed. Facebook, Twitter, InstaGram, Windows, Apple, Amazon, Snapchat, TikTok all are very recognizable words or portmanteaus of descriptive words that are attractive to average users and are meant to convey a specific emotion or feeling. Meanwhile it’s been years since Twitter changed its name to X and yet nobody calls it that, and everybody still calls posts on that platform “Tweets”.
Like, this billion dollar industry doesn’t cease to be so because you personally don’t find it compelling lol.

From what I can tell the author uses AI assistance in creating API endpoints and some front end styling, based on some clause code agent files in the repo. Whether that is for prototyping client changes after making backend changes, or thats what winds up in the official client, I cannot say. It’s a good thought though as it’s not really mentioned on the main site.
From reading his blog he seems to be not be yet another AI bro and I sort of agree with his position on the ultimate usefulness of AI. There is little to no AI generation implemented in the app, it seems mostly designed as a search function and is optional.
