  • I’ve spent about $500 repairing a 2001 Toyota sequoia. It sat not being used for about 8 years. I saw paper work for a failed emission test in 2019. New starter, battery, a new coolant hose, serpentine belt, some other small bullshit, and now it needs new knock sensors. It runs, just badly. This thing has 265k miles and taken us through so many trips and family vacations. I want another 100k out of it. Interior is almost done, but

  • Basically a zoetrope at that point.

Reminds me when I first started pc gaming. I even doubled my RAM to 512mb! I found a mod that basically turned everything into basic polygons where the walls were just red planes, characters looked like minecraft, the guns looked like they were done by a brutalist architect after being verbally described to them. Ran a mean 45 fps, but you had to use something like CCleaner to clear the ram in between rounds.

  • Yeah, I never bought into the"Gov’t is hiding aliens" as in spaceships and little green men per se. I figure there’s some highly secret advanced intelligence gathering that won’t see the light of day for another 30 or 40 years that has caught stuff that can’t be explained yet.

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

Then there’s the time when trump showed pictures to confirm intel at a press conference and it basically confirmed that the US had spy satellites that had highly advanced resolution cameras. So if the US said “Hey, we detected this, but we don’t know wtf it is.”, every intelligence agency would immediately ask themselves: how did the US detect that, how do we protect ourselves from it, and can we also do that.

  • When I was on a strict diet, I actually bought 5 dollar rotisserie chicken and made a stir fry of sorts with broccoli, spinach, carrots, peas. I’d skip breakfast just to be able to have a big dinner and be satisfied going to bed. I’d try to get close to 120g of protein a day, (I’d eat half a chicken a day) and technically as much veg as I could stomach. I figure I was eating around 1500 calories a day. It worked but it was boring.

  • Mark 9:42 NIV “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea. "

Is the Potomac close enough? Or we really gotta drag his ass to the Atlantic

  • First thought was shooting parallel to floor, then ppl where talking about masts. I was like oh, ok that makes sense too.

there’s also that a lot died of infection.

The vast majority of wounds documented during the Civil War were caused by the Minié ball, while the rest were from grapeshot, canister or other exploding shells. Few men were treated for saber or bayonet wounds and even fewer for cannon ball wounds.

Unfortunately for the soldiers and the surgeons, the Civil War was fought just years before the widespread acceptance of the Germ Theory and the understanding of antisepsis and the sterilization of instruments and equipment. The Civil War surgeons performed their work as best they could, but did not have the knowledge of the role germs played in causing infection. While some antiseptic substances like iodine and bromine were used, the reason for their effectiveness was unknown. The discovery of antibiotics was still decades in the future.

  • I’m trying to fix up my parents old 01 Toyota sequoia. Gonna use it as our family vacation vehicle. 14mpg, but seats 8 with trunk space and a hitch cargo thingy. Split the gas between 6 ppl and plenty of room for everyone.

Plus there’s actually room to work on the vehicle and no proprietary computer stuff that needs to be done at the dealer.
