Modern radio traffic is encrypted and those types of scanners don’t really work anymore. It’s a nice fantasy for keyboard warriors that they’re gonna “hack” or “jam” the radios and dismantle fed operations, but it’s just not realistic in the slightest. It’d be much more feasible (hypothetically, for the glowies in the room) to take a radio from someone in the field and monitor the traffic.

It wouldn’t work for long, because as dumb as cops are, they do have intelligent support staff behind them who plan for that and would just switch everyone to a different channel and/or disable the stolen one as soon as it was known a radio was compromised. Radio activity is also very easy for the government to track and any rando trying anything better be ready for a platoon to be all over their ass in about half the time they think they will.

Newsom has a history of using transphobic language and stances, has removed funding from LGBTQ+ organizations in California, has been spearheading the destruction of homeless camps without any alternatives for the people impacted, came out in support of Israel “defending itself”, and has hosted multiple right wing christo-nationalists on his podcast. When kirk was killed, he immediately posted in support of him and his family and said nothing about a school shooting that occurred on the same day. A few months ago on bluesky he casually posted about how after Trump deployed armed forces to CA, he’s since been using the NG himself to do drug interdiction operations within the state.

Gavin Newsom is an opportunist, simple as. He does not care about the working class or stopping fascism, just making sure he gets ahead himself. His interns might be memeing on Trump on Twitter to appease his base, but he’s been pushing moderate and right wing policies increasingly in response to the Trump regime gaining traction. He sees the writing on the wall and wants to position himself for upcoming elections as a good option for disenfranchised right wingers and centrists, and doesn’t care if he throws people on the left under the bus to do it.

Edit: Just to get ahead of the inevitable, I am a leftist who voted for Harris, and would vote for Newsom if forced to by the DNC. Not because I think either of them deserve any ounce of power over this nation, but solely because FPTP voting fucks over voters and forces people like me to pick the “not outwardly fascist” option. Our best course of action is to support progressive candidates so we won’t have corporate center right posers forced on us in the first place.

You’re upset at them because they correctly stated that the US military are not superheroes coming to save us all? There is literal historic precedent of the US military firing on US citizens for lawfully protesting. And besides any of that, have you ever spoken to someone who was enlisted or is in the guard? I closely know one combat vet who is a leftist and one officer who is left of center. They have both straight up told me that the idea of the military stopping any of this or fracturing over Trump is a fantasy. Outside of these two people, every military member I’ve met has been proudly MAGA.

Not disagreeing with you there. I have a myriad of reasons why I am no longer in that field, and that period of my life was a huge contributor in radicalizing me to the left, by US standards. You see and do a lot of fucked up shit and work with a lot of people who should be getting serious psychological treatment rather than carrying a gun and a badge, controlling a court room, determining who qualifies for social aid, or how someone in a cell should be rehabilitated. You get put in situations where you have to decide between doing right and putting a massive target on your back from the system.

That all being the case, there are still a lot of ignorant or just straight up shitty people who get reinforced by these programs to continue the cycle.

I think you’re misunderstanding the point I was making. I’m not advocating the gatekeeping of higher education, I believe that the taxes I pay should enable anyone to go to college or a vocational program if they choose.

My point is that these colleges that cater specifically to law enforcement programs aren’t even remotely equivalent when compared to normal community colleges, let alone a university. They do the bare minimum to meet the legal requirements, teach the bare minimum required by the state law enforcement licensing board and instead substitute rhetoric and pseudoscience that reinforces mindsets in graduates that the streets are a warzone, minorities are cartel members, and that authority is more important than empathy.

Functionally, many of these specific programs don’t give any real education or experience above a GED where it matters, yet they parade that they do. They often call them “Law Enforcement” degrees, not criminal justice degrees, as they are not equivalent and can’t legally call them the same thing. But, they do conveniently tick the box of requiring a degree and do weed out anyone too who might question system too much or show too much empathy.

No, I’m not. If you think local law enforcement aren’t throwing on masks and doing joint operations with ICE just because they say they aren’t, I have a bridge to sell you. That venn diagram is a circle, comrade.

This is easily bypassed by having “college” programs that are literally just puppy mills for cops. They technically meet the requirements to give out a degree, but the program is 80% propaganda and warrior ethos training, not academic rigor or studying social science.

I was in the CJ field for a long time before getting my shit figured out, and I actually have a bachelors degree from a decent university. Most of the people I worked with in that career field had “degrees” from online programs or schools in the middle of fucking nowhere, population 100, that only offer law enforcement and nursing courses, and will hand hold even the dumbest motherfucker across the finish line.

As an American leftist, the above is the majority of my countrymen and it is fucking embarrassing and exhausting to live alongside them.
