[object Object]@sh.itjust.workstoGeneral Programming Discussion@lemmy.ml•Getting started with reverse engineering?English
4·2 days agoFor network calls, they probably have socket related system calls in the binary file, that would be my second step in reversing. First step would be to try things like Wireshark to intercept the network calls, as that would be a lot cleaner.

13·3 days agoGod I fucking hope this community doesn’t turn into yet another generic US news site just because you can say “you should know about this news article”

Technology@lemmy.world•About the search for a Discord alternative, an article about Matrix versus XMPPEnglish
6·4 days agoSeems more like it’s aimed at people who wants to choose between Matrix and XMPP. I really appreciate XMPP, but its server management features were nowhere near Discord level last time I checked.

DeGoogle Yourself@lemmy.ml•Best way to keep a gmail based non-gmail email addressEnglish
9·10 days agoIf you have another personal email address, you can set up automatic forwarding. Google will still be able to read your emails you receive since it all goes into Gmail server, but they will be forwarded to your non-Google email address, and you can use any client for your personal email.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•should we allow (aka accept as a community) communities like !pcmasterrace@zerobytes.master that just repost reddit content and don’t allow lemmy-only posts?English
6·13 days agoWhy not? Like, block them if you don’t like it. I don’t like how the interaction is limited due to it being a mirror, but I don’t see a reason against having it available.
You should edit the title so people don’t have to guess your question though.
Not many people like vibe-coding here, so you might see some hostility from them. Still, I don’t see it being that harmful when people use it for their own personal usage. Somewhat jealous that you seem to be able to get it working properly, I never see decent code out of it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why Is It Harder To Move People To Open Source - Decentralized Options?English
5·17 days agoIt’s always contents. Being open source or decentralised is never the sole reason that convinces someone to use them. Same reason why people avoid hexbear even though it’s open source, or Truth social even though it’s based on Mastodon (I know they’re not open source anymore nor decentralised but you get the idea).

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Is it possible to have a full install of Windows 11 on thumb drive?English
3·17 days agoI know Hasleo WinToUSB allows you to install Windows on a USB stick. I have personally tested it with Windows 10 and it worked well, but I have not tested it with Windows 11 (but they claim that it works) or Lockdown Browser. You can try their free version which has manual partitioning and BitLocker behind a paywall.
For one second I thought you had a stove installed in the floor like a hidden entrance to the basement

cybersecurity@infosec.pub•Breaking Bitlocker - Bypassing the Windows Disk Encryption
1·26 days agoThe TPM takes “measurements” of the system and releases the decryption key only if they’re all correct. Files on the disk are encrypted, so booting into another OS with a bootable media doesn’t work (measurement picks up the fact that you booted into another OS). When the system does boot properly, the Windows lock screen prevents you from viewing the files.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why are programmers so rude to beginners?English
4·29 days agoThat’s what I did too. It’s not programming, but I remember doing something like “What is it when a plus b is b plus a” because I forgot the name of that property.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why are programmers so rude to beginners?English
491·29 days agoYeah, it’s common, especially in programming. It’s true that searching on Google usually solves the problem, but the biggest issue is that it’s hard to know the exact word you need to use. They know the word so it’s trivial for them, but that’s not the case with others, and they’re proud that they’re out of touch with people.

“tomato is a fruit ☝️🤓” ass comments in this post, man

Sometimes by accident, but mostly because out of habit, since you usually use Ctrl+Shift+C for copying things off terminal. Annoying part is it automatically opens up element selector, and I wonder for half a second why nothing got copied, and why the click didn’t work.
