At least he saw the light now. Good for him. I think it was obvious that swift would fail outside of Mac, but he had to see it first. Some people will just soldier on down a wrong path, but adapted. That’s promising.

1·1 day agoMatrix has voice chat. You can enable it in the element client. Settings, Labs, video voice experiment. Enable it and you can have voice and video rooms.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Do you prefer XMPP or Matrix powered apps as a discord alternative?
5·2 days agoI don’t know what people use discord for, honestly. I just call up my friends on signal for the regularly scheduled gaming session and play. All I need is audio.
I don’t understand what people need video or screen sharing for while gaming. Are they playing a game watching each other’s facial reactions or something? And others talk about screen sharing… Are you guys gaming while watching the other person’s screen? I’m puzzled.
Signal can audio and video calls with screen sharing 🤷
Matrix I only use for opensource projects or as a replacement or client for IRC (IRC sucks ass). There was also a time fosdem streamed everything on matrix. It was glorious. I wish more conferences (and fosdem itself) had chatrooms for every talk, rooms for different topics, and a general chat room for everybody. We don’t have to fly and waste fuel to participate in conferences. Not everybody has deep enough pockets to pay 2k for a flight to Sydney and a further 1k for food and lodging there. Or worse, a trip to the US to get fondled by US border patrol and sent to Guantanamo bay for having said “Trump is a dunce”.

Programming@programming.dev•RFC: Suggestion to monetise without ads
3·3 days agoThanks. That’s quite recent. If it’s already in Chromium, maybe it has a reasonable shot at becoming a standard. But who knows how long it will take.
Is this for work? Then only use it for work. Don’t out anything private on it. No exceptions.

3·3 days agoThat looks interesting. Any idea how close it is to reality? I found a plugin they have but it does require setting up a test account on their test network. Doesn’t seem ready for real world use yet.

4·4 days agoBeing always hyper attentive and alert definitely sounds good for flu season but not for life long protection. That does not seem wise in the slightest. IIRC that’s exactly why we have allergies: some immune responses are always on and over the top against something they recognise incorrectly.
It’s not impossible that this will require more energy from the body and lead to marked fatigue in subjects.

1·5 days agoI won’t claim to be prescient, because I was honestly only joking about suggesting it. Seems like your company would embrace such a workflow and then some. They might already be drooling at the idea of firing everybody and letting the AI take care of everything.
