8·16 days agoHow I interpret this :
- Oh no, the very trend and thus powerful corporations are doing something stupid that does not work, let’s copy them!
instead of just watch the sideline as they keep on pouring more resources with nothing to show for it except the buzz they keep so hard on trying to maintain.

That’s not what IMEC is : “Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre is an international research & development organization, active in the fields of nanoelectronics and digital technologies” and it’s a non profit. They basically do research for and with the semi industry.

Fediverse@lemmy.ml•Is it just me, or does anyone else wish there was a federated, decentralized alternative to YouTube Music?
3·28 days agoThere are actual radios, like FIP.fr or plenty of other ones that just give you the m3u8 and their playlist. It’s not federated but it’s less centralized than most platforms like SoundCloud or Apple Music.
If you do want a specific song and album you can pay for it via BandCamp and get the actual file, DRM free, to play on any device.
If you do want a song or album it BandCamp does not have, or you already have a copy of, e.g. physical CD, and you want something less centralize SoulSeek still works.
PS: I have been running my own PeerTube instance for years now but I don’t use it for music, just videos.

Technology@lemmy.ml•NVIDIA CEO says relentless negativity around AI is hurting society and has "done a lot of damage"
10·1 month agoOh noes… who will think of the shareholders?! /$
What’s next, he’s also going to ask people not use terms like “slop” like MicroSlop CEO?
Honestly a lot of people, including me, who do complain about the AI hype (not public research in AI) were, or still are, sadly, customers. People who wanted to buy MORE of his products but not fund something that has so many predictable negative consequences with so little upsides except for his bank account.

Truly shameful to use YouTube (thus Google, BigTech surveillance capitalism) links on Lemmy.

4·2 months agoWell there are guardrails from what I understood, including :
- executing commands (off by default)
- executing commands without user confirmation (off by default)
which are IMHO reasonable but if the person this happened to is right, there is no filesystem sandbox, e.g. limited solely to the project repository.

Technology@lemmy.ml•Google's AI Deletes User's Entire Hard Drive, Issues Groveling Apology: "I Cannot Express How Sorry I Am"
151·2 months agoAs mentioned on another Lemmy server IMHO and as the vibe coder mentions in his video the main problem isn’t that LLMs suck in general (hallucinations, ecological costs, lack of openness for the most popular ones, performance, etc) but rather that this specific tool made by Google does not sandbox anything by default.

Technology@lemmy.ml•Geohot: Bikeshedding, or why I want to build a laptop
2·2 months agoSounds absolutely stupid… and yet my (gaming) desktop (model CORSAIR ONE i180) remains untouched after nearly 6 years. I still play indies to AAA to VR with it. I still work with it, specifically VR prototyping, so dev.
If I were to give it away or use as a self-hosted server with GPU used on e.g Immich or video transcoding it would still do pretty well.
So…IMHO it’s not a bad take but damn I remembered I paid a LOT of money back then. As other pointed out if you can afford it, sure. If you are not a professional then probably not.

81·3 months agoHard to fall behind what? None of them is making anything interesting. Best they can do is provide some text that sound superficially plausible, is statistically correct and yet have 0 reasoning.
Nobody is “ahead” of anybody except is managing to do so with even more data while wasting even more resources.
Maybe more importantly of the participants in that race demonstrated that to keep on doing so will actually solve any of the problems that have been discovered along the way.

Technology@lemmy.ml•Microsoft AI CEO Puzzled by People Being "Unimpressed" by AI
42·3 months agoIndeed, and it … worked, in fact still does, exactly as expected.

Vibe coders want their “agents” to be able to do more. Started with tools on a computer, VMs, but recently it was payments (x402) and last it was a “social network” so this is actually pretty coherent.
I do think it’s terrible and I hate the whole hype but it makes sense to want your “system” to have more diverse inputs (e.g. dataset) and outputs (e.g payment to get more inputs, arms or other actuators to “act” on the World and complete tasks, get more data, etc).
