Meh. I have a pretty detached perspective on socials. I like it here and I’m fine with it being a safe space or even an echo chamber and I really don’t care too much about the upvote downvote stuff aside from it potentially affecting reach. We tend to pile on whichever direction those are trending because we’re dumb humans. What I like is that I can dive into the fecal hell of other media and wash off my eyes a little here. Usually. Something that’s always been aggravating about the fascists is that they need zero proof before they run with an idea to the point of actual insanity based on an uttered lie from one of their bootbearers. I’d like to hold the rest of us to a much higher standard but, you’re right, it really is like we’ll take any headline or statement we don’t have an issue with as true without a second thought.

My history lobe is a bit rusty but after emancipation, black folks grew a lot of watermelon because it was easy and cheap to grow and it sold well. It was a symbol of the time as well as former slaves reaching financial independence. As usual, shitheads will turn any symbol against it’s people as a tool of oppression (see DEI as a recent example) so watermelon was associated with black people in the worst way. Now the racism has died down a lot but to this day some people will say (and think) that black people love watermelon and think of it as a poverty food.

It goes way deeper but that should be the semi-accurate gist.

Exactly. When I “used to” pirate games (dear me! I would never dare break those little laws now) it was originally because I was way too broke to pay for them. When I had more pay I later bought nearly everything I had pirated and actually played on gog or steam. Since then it’s just easier to use steam or GOG than to pirate and scan and install and mess with my firewall and install the crack and diagnose wtf I messed up. Since then I only ever pirated games I’d never ever buy. If you count every game I pirated (sometimes up to three times based on if there were issues, virus scanner pings, lost the file and reinstalled on another drive, etc…) as a lost sale I’ve potentially caused up to 10k or more in losses over the hundreds of games I’ve illicitly downloaded. Most of which, again, I downloaded with a bank balance that hovered near 0$.

Let me clarify. I’m an imbecile who normally comments on porn and trash memes. I didn’t put much thought into it besides “PSA: we’re inclined to believe things that align with us! Make sure to check!” Because I gotta remind myself often because I believe most things I like. and think people also might appreciate being reminded. I just think too often in binary terms because (see above) I’m an idiot and it’s all easier that way. But I’m always trying to grow and do better so I’ll take your critique of my comment to heart.

I guess I’ll try to phrase things less binarily in the future. Or keep it short. But thanks for keeping me on it.
