Trash on our beaches and in our waterways isn’t just unsightly – it’s also potentially dangerous to marine life and in some cases harmful to water quality. The annual Delaware Coastal Cleanup offers volunteers an opportunity to help make a difference for Delaware’s shoreline and waterways while joining an international effort to clean up the world’s waters.
Volunteers collected 5,000 pounds of trash in the 38th Annual Delaware Coastal Cleanup. The data collected by the volunteers helps show what’s washing up on Delaware’s shores and informs state efforts to reduce litter.
All data are also sent to the International Ocean Conservancy’s Coastal Cleanup database. Delaware’s results contribute to global trends and help solutions for cleaner oceans and waterways.
Cigarette butts, food wrappers and bottle caps topped the list of the most found items.
The coastal cleanup data dashboard provides a detailed look at what was removed from Delaware’s beaches and waterways.
