Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Experimental code ready for testing to enable HDMI 2.1 FRL with AMDGPU on LinuxEnglish
10·5 days agoDon’t think so. It’s currently focused on 4:4:4 colour at high bandwidth (4k@120hz), HDR, and VRR.
I’m guessing it’s because he gently criticised Christian Nationalism, and Trump can’t allow that.
Streisand effect on their part, with the interview accumulating millions of views.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is there a good way to tell if music was made with AI?
7·7 days agoI’m not sure if there’s reliable ways to detect it automatically, but seeing if they have any sort of presence outside of where you are purchasing it would be a start. I’d normally say look on MusicBrainz but even if the bundle above is legit, it’s not the sort of music that would end up on there I suspect as the website owner appears to be the creator and there’s no obvious artist attached to it.
Anyway, that bundle seems suspect to me.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Wireless VR streaming levels up on Linux with the latest WiVRn releaseEnglish
1·8 days agoJust make sure you use XRizer instead of OpenComposite for OpenVR compatibility as it’s much more advanced at this point. You can also use OpenComposite as a secondary if a particular game doesn’t work with XRizer.
For clarity, OpenVR is the historical standard for VR which is still used by some modern games, although more are supporting OpenXR, which WiVRN handles directly.
See also this compatibility list and the Linux VR Adventures wiki.

Opensource@programming.dev•What's the point of switching to Discord alternatives, if they're going to be subject to the same age verification laws?
9·9 days agoIt’s not just they are doing age verification, but the method they are using to implement it. ID collection is not privacy respecting, and further to that, they’ve already had a major data leak, including said IDs. For the facial scan method, they claim that it will be on-device only but given that it’s closed source software, they could change this at any time.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Why is self-hosted voice chat so hard?English
17·11 days agoNot FOSS or open source in any sense. You could still say it’s self-hosted, but I suspect most people self-hosting care about this.

Australia@aussie.zone•Old Bureau of Meteorology website still getting thousands of clicksEnglish
2·12 days agoreg.bom.gov.au has existed for a few years at least and always had HTTPS as far as I can remember. The original HTTP site was just retired altogether from what I can tell.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•All Steam Deck models out of stock in U.S., with fears that memory shortage will prompt price increaseEnglish
4·12 days agoIt’s both, although the former more than the latter. Also, part of the hoarding is likely happening precisely because of the uncertainty of the tariff policies.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What desktop operating system would you recommend to the average user?
62·13 days agoSteamOS is great but there are too many games that require Windows.
It’s mainly multiplayer games with anti-cheat malware. If they prefer single player games, they’ll be fine.

News@lemmy.world•Moderna says FDA refuses its application for new mRNA flu vaccine
9·13 days agoYep, and you’d think the conspiracy theorists would see that a cheap or free vaccine is exactly counter to all of their theories about people being kept sick so they can pay for ongoing prescriptions.

Aussie Enviro@aussie.zone•Consumers face five-fold hike in network charges under regulator plan to take from the poor, and give to the rich
4·14 days agoIn the long run this sort of model probably makes sense, but it’s far too soon as it discourages solar and battery uptake and increases the relative burden on the poor.
Once we have more solar and batteries than we can possibly use, an unlimited model with a monthly fee would be best (like how we pay for internet access), but that’s probably 10+ years away. Ideally, those on low incomes would have subsidised bills too so they are not eating proportionally more of the costs.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Looking for FOSS server monitoring UIEnglish
2·15 days agoThis one is nicer than uptime-kuma if you prefer declarative config.

I’m going to echo the zigbee recommendation for bulbs. Can be had for dirt cheap and work reliably (and there’s high end options too if you want that). And are fully locally provisioned and controlled.
Matter over thread is also becoming an option but the default provision option requires Google (including play services and an account) and they tend to be quite a bit more expensive.
