29·4 days agoNot only US credit cards, we also need online payment alternatives. And the most annoying thing is the google play services requirements for every single app, just like this one as an example

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Even when I'm mocking AI bros, they don't get itEnglish
71·8 days agoI often see this in chat groups, unfortunately it comes from Linux chat groups.
AI bros are similar to anti-vaccine or MAGA bros and they are short sighted, AI is not for us, but merely a tool for the rich to enrich themselves.

Technology@lemmy.world•AI spurs employees to work harder, faster, and with fewer breaks, study findsEnglish
5·12 days agoI heard a similar story from a friend of mine, that the c-levels at his office only wanted to achieve faster development rather than proper development. And he was worried because the system built by the devs team had become bigger and complex, and he didn’t know how to track down bugs in the source code.

2·1 month agothe hardest part is the dependence on Active Directory, which almost all governments and big companies use it.
yeah, I know there are open source solutions for this, but they are not as easy to manage as Active Directory.

1·1 month agoour leaders are even worse. since the early 2000s, we have never had a competent leader. All we have had are “charismatic” leaders for their ignorant supporters. And the current leader is the worst of them all, a former special forces general who also kidnapped activists. He’s similar to his father-in-law, a great dictator and corruptor in our history.
and he didn’t even care about the deaths of more than 1,000 people due to flooding. The response was slow, he avoided criticism, and he did not even accept foreign aid.

World News@lemmy.world•Iranians use Turkey border to access internet during blackoutsEnglish
1·1 month agoyeah it’s not easy, but doable. It takes a lot of effort if you have an authoritarian government., and the Iranian government is a very bad example. Probably they should be more serious, reorganize and develop strategies to fight the government, because demonstrations are ineffective.
And communications is very important for this, that’s why the Iranian government (as well as other authoritarian governments) wants to cut off internet connections.

2·1 month agoAlready happened with the ICC, in our country we are trying to avoid the US financial system. The central bank is developing a QR payment system. Currently, we have agreements to use this system with several countries in Asia.
And no matter how good the QR payment system is, it still relies heavily on the Goolag ecosystem. Most QR payment applications will not work with microG.

4·1 month agoThose words were addressed to Geoffrey Hinton, who once said this
Hinton said. Biological intelligence evolved to create digital intelligence, which can absorb everything humans have created and start getting direct experience of the world.
“It may keep us around for a while to keep the power stations running, but after that, maybe not,“ he added. “We’ve figured out how to build beings that are immortal. These digital intelligences, when a piece of hardware dies, they don’t die. If … you can find another piece of hardware that can run the same instructions, you can bring it to life again. So we’ve got immortality, but it’s not for us.”

7·1 month agoYou can use Briar, BitChat, or Bridgefy to communicate, without having internet connections. I’ve only tried Briar, which works with cell networks, wifi, also bluetooth.

In our country, we use QR code payments. Currently, we have agreements to use this payment method with several countries in Asia. But it’s still infuriating because most online payment and banking apps require Google Play Services.
