If you’re asking why there seems to be a North and South for the solar system and the galaxy in general it’s because the giant clouds of matter that coalesced to make the stars began to spin around the center of mass due to gravity. As more mass was accumulated the spinning became more pronounced as everything “fell into line”

OP did you put that list of sources in the description together yourself manually, or do you have some tool/trawler that organizes related new stories and does it for you (or is that some new lemmy/piefed feature)?

To a certain extent even that outlook is optimistic.

I love this book so much and read it every few years. The first half is a fish-out-of-water story about an intrepid traveler surviving and thriving using his wits alone (and some luck, plot devices, and a pinch of deus-ex-machina). The second half is about why powerful institutions suck so much, human history is a mess, and generally why we can’t have nice things.

As a hopeful misanthrope I highly recommend it.

It’s hard to beat the Culture series. While not quite the same I found that Ken MacLeod’s Engines of Light Trilogy and Ursula LeGuin’s Hanish Cycle books were both excellent in their own ways and hit a lot of similar notes.

This is at least in part because Tesla is shifting manufacturing over to humanoid robots because he has to make a million of them to get his trillion dollar payout. His stupid shareholders are essentially paying him to nuke the company (unless you believe the humanoid robot hype)
