Someone in 1998 made the first machinima using Quake. Somehow that lead to a web cartoon getting a theatrical run.

Third post about how shit Youtube is these days.

So I got a video in my recommendation called, "I miss the golden age of fanservice gaming" and while I immedaitely vaulted that out of my feed. But that got me thinking.

The nostalgia community of Youtube. Trash. To be fair, it isn't as big of an issue as some people make it out to be at times, then again I'm not RebelTaxi in 2013 making a shitty video whining about 90s kids.

But most of these nostalgia videos are pointless. Full stop.

Aesthetics and graphics in video games aren't the driving factors to determine quality unless it affects gameplay. Cave Story looks like a Super Nintendo game and it's still one of my all time favorites. Yet most of those Youtubers only care about arbitrary things like vibes and aesthetics rather than how older games play or whether they're released as a buggy mess, how they worked. It looks like they ran out of things to say about the early 2000s or early 2010s to milk the now hip nostalgia boom so they started grasping at straws.

It is hard to enjoy modern review channels because a lot of them are just nostalgia and nothing else. I hate saying this word but they're, "Slop".

To anyone reading this, I don't think the past or present are inherently better. I've seen people, most of which where already adults or late teens by the late 2000s, respond to complaints about 2010s cartoons by saying, "90s cartoons are actually worse". The problem I have is none of these videos have anything meaningful to say. Here's something I miss, I miss when I could find videos on shit like how the programmers for Atari had to program their games to race the electron gun in TVs because the console had so little graphical memory. That's how you make a nostalgia video.
