Inspiration

Sudhaar was inspired by everyday civic and environmental issues that often go unnoticed or unresolved, such as improper waste disposal and water contamination. We observed that while people are aware of these problems, there is no simple and transparent platform to report them and visualize their impact. Sudhaar was created to empower citizens and promote accountability through technology.

What it does

Sudhaar is a civic-tech platform that enables users to report and visualize environmental and infrastructure-related issues, including waste management and water quality concerns. The platform displays these reports on an interactive map, using clustering to highlight problem-prone areas and provide a clear overview of local environmental conditions.

How we built it

We built Sudhaar using a modern web-based architecture. The frontend is developed with React and Leaflet to provide an interactive and responsive map experience. Custom markers and clustering techniques are used to efficiently display multiple reports, ensuring both performance and usability. The system is designed with scalability in mind to support future data integrations.

Challenges we ran into

One of the key challenges was maintaining map performance while handling multiple location-based reports. Implementing custom clustering, managing visual clarity, and ensuring smooth interactions required careful design decisions. Additionally, structuring the platform to be flexible for future advanced data sources was a technical challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of creating a functional and intuitive platform that transforms scattered civic issues into meaningful visual insights. The successful implementation of interactive maps, clustering, and a clean user interface makes Sudhaar a practical solution rather than just a conceptual idea.

What we learned

Through this project, we gained hands-on experience with geospatial visualization, frontend performance optimization, and user-centric design. We also developed a deeper understanding of how technology can be applied to solve real-world civic and environmental challenges.

What's next for Sudhaar

As a next step, we plan to integrate hyperspectral and multispectral satellite imaging to monitor and predict contamination in open water bodies. By analyzing spectral signatures from satellite data, Sudhaar aims to detect early indicators of pollution and water quality degradation at scale, enabling proactive environmental monitoring beyond manual reporting.
