Inspiration

Hearing Eitan describe the problem he wants to solve in his brief made me aware I’m also guilty of that exact behavior. I save recipes constantly, but I rarely end up making them. I would save, forget, or find that I didn’t have the right ingredients when I was ready to cook.

I also noticed my sister struggles with deciding what to cook based on the ingredients we have at home.

When given the option of which brief to build for, my heart chose Eitan’s as I believe the best problems to solve are your own.

RecipeReady was born from that idea: solving a real problem I face, and helping others do the same

What it does

RecipeReady is an MVP app that extracts recipes from Instagram and TikTok videos and breaks them down into ingredients and step-by-step instructions. Its goal is to reduce the friction between inspiration and a ready meal.

The core problem we’re solving is helping people actually cook the recipes they love. We do this by:

  • Extracting recipes from TikTok & Instagram (perfect for our MVP, since these platforms are where popular chefs like Eitan share content)

  • Allowing users to set reminders so they remember to cook

  • Allowing users to create and track grocery lists for recipes

How we built it

We approached building RecipeReady in phases:

  • Research: Interviewed ideal users (my mum, sisters), conducted competitor analysis, created feature lists, core screens, and a PRD.

  • Design Inspiration: Used Mobbin to guide the app’s look and feel.

  • Core Functionality: Built the extraction flow via share extension before focusing on design.

  • UI & Screens: Created all screens, states, and designs.

  • Integration: Connected functionality with design.

  • Polish & Production: Added additional functionality, fixed bugs, and prepared the app for production.

Challenges we ran into

  • Recipe extraction: Figuring out a fast, reliable way to extract ingredients and instructions when they aren’t in the video captions.

  • UI consistency: I had a clear vision for a minimalist, visually appealing app targeted at food lovers. Keeping the UI consistent sometimes meant manually prompting AI to fix tiny discrepancies.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Successfully implemented the recipe extraction flow for both Instagram and TikTok.

  • Achieved a consistent, polished UI without writing a line of code.

  • Built an onboarding flow that tells a story while preparing users for subscription.

  • Submitting my project. With just 10 days to build, and this outcome! This submission is my biggest achievement

What we learned

  • How to profile app usage and optimize memory, CPU, and energy consumption.

  • The importance of a design system when working with AI-driven design.

What's next for Recipe Ready

  • Make recipe extraction faster and more reliable.

  • Test with real users to get feedback on bugs, new features, or preferred recipe platforms.

  • Use feedback to enhance the app and ensure people cook the recipes they save ❤️

Note: This app was built independently by Andrea Ozuem. A fellow contestant Paul Jeremiah also built their own version of the app brief under the same Apple Developer account. Both submissions are separate, individual entries, as confirmed with the organizers.
