Inspiration
My inspiration for this project is all of the wild fires that have been happening most recently. In recent times we’ve seen devastating effects of wildfires and deforestation happening in our forests and rain forests and this leads to even more detrimental effects. This game was made to raise awareness about a topic that goes overlooked and encourage change.
What it does
In Mission home the player’s objective is to plant as many trees as possible before 30 days is up. The main functions that the player can take is picking up rocks which they can trade for seeds and planting trees in the area. Overtime the player will be able to turn the dry, dusty earth into a beautiful environment.
How we built it
The to the assets were made through character and the game was developed through unity. The game will be put on itch.io once fully complete.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges that I ran into were setting up the animations at first, however after much perseverance, I was able to make nice animations that help the player move around the game as well as feel interactive with the environment.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
An accomplishment that I am proud of is how the game was built in such a short time span. Although it’s not fully complete, many indie games and software’s take years to build and this was definitely accomplishment for me as a beginning developer.
What we learned
In the process of building mission home, I learned a lot about animation in unity, as well as different effects such as layers and UI. These lessons will help me in the future to make bigger and better games.
What's next for Mission Home
As Mission Home feels a little bit lonely right now, I would like to increase more NPCs that could interact with the player as well as a more defined storyline to draw the player in and help them really enjoy learning about the environment. It would also be nice to include more sustainability features such as building sustainable energy or helping wildlife. Please look forward to the future of Mission Home.
