Inspiration

Inspired by the rating-system created by Yelp, we wanted to expand the use of ratings and reviews to people. We wanted to move past restaurants and businesses and move on to people and personalities.

What it does

MateRate is a website that allows you to record your interactions with strangers, celebrities, and friends. The service allows its users to write ratings and comments about their run-ins, report harmful reviews, and learn more about those in their community.

How we built it

To start this project, we started with brainstorms, ideas, drafts, and sketches. Once we decided on an idea, we started developing a website to display it. MateRate's website was built with React and Firebase. The languages used were HTML, CSS, and Javascript.

Challenges we ran into

Some outstanding challenges that we faced while creating MateRate were executing design concepts with CSS and linking a database to our website. We were able to overcome our designing struggles with patience and stack overflow, and we successfully added a database by simplifying our ideas.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our UX/UI that closely mimics the drafts and ideas we created in our initial stages. We kept a clear theme, color palette, and design throughout our website's pages and think the final product is very intuitive.

What we learned

Throughout this project, our team has learned how to collaborate, build on each other's ideas, and tackle problems as they come our way. We believe that friendship strengthens our teamwork and hope that our enthusiasm will shine through our project. On the technical side, we have further learned how to develop websites on the front-end and how to link databases.

What's next for MateRate

MateRate was a silly idea made on a Saturday afternoon, but we believe in its limitless potential. In the future, we would like to add Alerts: A notification system that alerts you of dangerous people in your area, filter and search options, a personal profile archive, and a mobile expansion. We assure you that MateRate will continue to surpass all expectations and grow as our ever-changing audience does too.
