Could it just be the reflections of ambient noise you also get when you hold your ear close to any surface? The old “If you hold a seashell to your ear, you can hear the ocean” kind of thing.

There are no nutrients that are exclusively available via meat/dairy. The only thing you might miss out on is B12, but that’s usually supplemented in a lot of the vegan substitutes/junk food alternatives already. Anything else you’ll get pretty easily by simply eating your regular veggies, beans, legumes etc.
If you truly care about nutrients, then get your blood tested and have them check what you are actually lacking, and then adjust or supplement your diet accordingly. Chances are that you are already low on something even when eating animal products.
Nuggets, onion rings etc are typically sold in boxes of 6, 9, 12 or 24, depending on product and country.

No clue if the jokes translate well into english, though.

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•We Paid Some Etsy Witches to Curse Charlie KirkEnglish
27·6 months agoBy Wednesday, I checked Charlie’s socials to see if he was spouting anything new.
He sure was spouting blood from his neck.
It’s shaped differently on US/EU keyboard layouts.
Could easily be an ‘artistic choice’. The website of the artist seems legit, so I wouldn’t put too much thought into it.
Apparently it does:
Marine organisms, such as plankton, fish, and larger mammals, are integral to the ocean’s carbon cycle. These organisms help sequester CO2 through a process known as the biological carbon pump, where CO2 absorbed during photosynthesis is transported to deeper waters when these organisms die and sink. However, when these organisms ingest microplastics, their ability to perform this function is compromised, reducing the ocean’s capacity to absorb CO2.
Moreover, plastics can alter the chemical composition of seawater, increasing its acidity and affecting marine ecosystems like coral reefs and shellfish, which are crucial for carbon sequestration. As these ecosystems degrade, the ocean’s ability to mitigate climate change diminishes.
The ad is fake and supposed to be a joke.
As for your question: I’d put it on the same level as eating roadkill or your dog that passed away. You could technically consider it “vegan”, as there is no exploitation or (additional) suffering involved, but it is at least weird as fuck and kind of moot, because the people eating meat wouldn’t eat it in the first place.
If you go by the literal definition, it’s not vegan because eating animals is not vegan, obviously.
Are those croissants store-bought or from a bakery/cafe? Because i’d like to know where I can buy vegan croissants that look that good.
It’s not a question of “Is it alive?”, but rather “Is it capable of suffering?”.

2·8 months agoIt’s already in Mexico. Im not an expert, but I’d assume it will have moved even further north by the time they get this factory up and running.
The New World Screwworm has been making its way further north through the Americas, Texas officials said, and the fly’s appearance in southern Mexico has worried agriculture and cattle industry officials and veterinarians’ groups.
They are also building one in southern Mexico, according to the article.

science@lemmy.world•Fish Suffer Up to 22 Minutes of Intense Pain When Taken Out of WaterEnglish
7·8 months agoI’m very well aware of the impact my existence has on the planet, but I can still try and minimize that impact as much as possible, even without taking it to the extreme and ending society. It’s not all or nothing.
If you want to minimize the amount of bugs killed, not eating meat is a great way to achieve that. Instead of harvesting tons of crops to then feed to animals, you could just eat those crops yourself. You’d even end up needing less space to grow your food overall, meaning you could re-naturalize a lot of farmland and create a habitat for billions of insects.
Respect yourself other people choices
How about you respect other animals right to bodily integrity.

4·8 months agoMost slaughter houses use bolt guns.
It’s hard to find official statistics, but most definitely not.
It is clear, however, that in the United States today, “CO2 stunning of pigs is the major method that is used in large slaughter plants.” According to unpublished data from the Pig Improvement Company, the use of CO2 gas to stun pigs has increased dramatically in recent decades. In 1999, CO2 was used to stun 2 percent of all pigs and 2.2 percent of pigs in establishments that slaughtered more than 4,500 pigs per day. By 2020, those numbers had risen to 86.2 percent and 96.2 percent, respectively. Today, according to FSIS enforcement records, at least 32 slaughter plants use CO2 gas slaughter systems.

Zero pain, or as minimal amount of pain as possible. Like, microseconds.
If you assume, that the operator doesn’t make any mistakes and is always 100% on point. Which they are not, as has been documented by countless of hidden cameras people have put up in slaughterhouses.
And even then, you are ignoring the immense pain and stress the animals experience the rest of their life before getting killed.

science@lemmy.world•Fish Suffer Up to 22 Minutes of Intense Pain When Taken Out of WaterEnglish
53·8 months agoThere’s a difference between actively choosing to kill an animal, and having an animal die as a consequence of another action.
Driving a car means that you’ll inevitably hit an animal at some point, but the alternative (walking) is often impractical and you’ll still try your best and stop or swerve when a cat runs into the road.
Eating meat, on the other hand, is an active choice that always involves someone killing an animal. The alternative is always there and is as easy as can be: eat something else.
But you have to respect other people lines as well.
Your personal freedom stops where someone else’s freedom begins. The question is whether you consider animals to be someone or something.

I’m not sure on the specific definition of “bestiality” and whether “sexual pleasure of the executing party” or whatever you want to call it is a necessity, but consent should certainly be a part of it.
Animals are, similar to children, students etc, fundamentally incapable of giving consent. If your gynecologist sticks a finger up your vagina without your consent, then it’s rape.
