Mind kinda blown on that one!

Ok … as someone who knows only the superficial of Chomsky and similarly Epstein (apart from the big news items) … am I the only one wondering why or how the hell these two would be so close and even conspiratorial. Not that Chomsky’s a hero or anything … I just would never have guessed.

Was this Epstein big trick: networking really well; or was Chomsky also a giant dirtbag?

I’m confused about what exactly the ring is in the image or the main image at least. There seems to be an enhanced image in the article that highlights the ring more clearly as an outer edge, which makes sense (I suppose).

But I don’t understand what I’m to make of the top image. It’s the diffuse light part of the ring?

The Lighthouse (Eggers). Fucking great! I expected more of a horror thing going in, which kinda ruined a bit, so I had to rewatch it again to get into the vibe more. And yea, love that film and will definitely watch it again at some point. What a second entry after The Witch from Eggers!

I think the show has been good the whole time, personally, and that the hate from book fans was way over blown. Season 2 was better than 1 though I think. I’m low key pumped for season 3!

Yes, but the uptake of this feels categorically different, like some new consumerism has been unlocked, and of course Streaming and under are still here aren’t they.

Seems like people learnt it were forced to hate the wrong part of the push for “productivity”. And, if true, it’s frightening.

The whole AI taking over email communications thing is a horror movie.

Yep. Just the other day someone dumped an AI response into chat out of nowhere. When I said I didn’t want to call it out as it might have been rude to point out they weren’t capable of knowing that stuff … their reply was that it’s everywhere now, so it couldn’t be rude.

And they’re likely right. But my god it shocked me.

Wait until you see the survey of their teachers.

Love it or hate it (I hate it) … humanity entered a new era with this shit. It’s everywhere and most want it. Like plastic or nuclear radiation or fire or metal work … all the things that mark a point in time in the geological record … AI created content now marks the beginning of this era.

It may well simply mark the beginning of the 3rd Millennium. The 1900s are now dead and we’re on new shores.

I’m still disturbed by how little people think about ethically and structurally. All I’m seeing is consumption and tech hype.

I started watching that a while ago and noped out pretty early on the basis that they may have a very good and well thought out point (the video is an impressive ~5hrs and tight too) … but also took something essential out of what it means to watch and resonate the show, something essentially Lynchian and tied the reason why he has fans.

I don’t think this is just the nature of “explaining Lynch” as nothing about Mulholland drive ever felt that way, for eg.

As a book reader/fan … how do you feel about the show? Good adaptation?

If you just wanted to get a sense of the vibe and maybe the influence of the show, a minimum of 3-5 episodes could get you somewhere.

But as for season 2 not being worth it, I don’t think that’s true. There’s a middle patch, from about episodes 9-20 or so. Look it up, there’ll be guides out there. These are the episodes where Lynch kinda left the show. Watching the parts he was involved in though is probably worth it. Especially as you’ll get the conclusion and the head in to season 3, where part of what season 3 is about has to do with the bigger picture of how it continues on from season 2.

They talk about episode eight of Twin Peaks the Return as it’s high point, but I think that does a disservice to the season as a whole. Though episode 8 is a stand out, the season has a logic and vibe and arc that stands higher IMO and is very much worth sticking through.

Hits me pretty hard TBH. No other celebrity/artist death has like this for me.

Yep. That’s the thing … It’s hard to work out, but I think there’s something missing from Eggers. Like he needs to work with a few great writers just learn some master craftsperson skills.
