Criticize hin for actually making his baked out of his mind teenager dream story, because at least the CGI blue people are played by real people.

Cameron is also involved in generative AI.. but doesn’t seem to think it’s useful.

Like, for all the fact that Avatar movies are essentially a fully animated movie, he has almost everything performance captured.

I think he was interested in AI to see if it was a way to better pull a vision from his mind.. but it’s not, and the basis for current systems will never do that.

He is an auteur director who hires people to bring his vision out of his head, and obviously the more people involved.. the harder that is to do.. but it’s still thousands of times better than dice rolling on Image Generators.

I dont think Ive ever got ai to give me what I want its easier to ask people to do it in most cases because I can transfer ideas to people not ai

James Cameron says he's fine investing in AI to replace all the VFX workers (that are the only reason anyone cares about his shitty blue alien films) but he draws the line at threatening the livelihoods of the Hollywood actor friends he actually cares about

Somewhat relatedly, does anyone expect anything from the new Avatar? The last one had just enough to make me wonder if it's actually a slow burn subversion of the white savior tropes. This guy who's supposedly fully integrated into a new culture, yet his kids call him "Sir" and his wife has to outright say, "Stop treating your family like a platoon". I'm not optimistic that it goes anywhere, but also maybe it might...

It will end with him learning to love his family and his PTSD flashbacks will be cured with the power of love, the humans will decide to stop invading the planet because liberalism.

Even a ways back before that he got famous for making a movie about an AI apocalypse time traveling murderbot (Terminator). Also the movie Aliens was famous. And Abyss, but that was kinda about a boat too.

Cameron is such an anomaly. really self-motivated guy, started off working class/blue collar, obviously he has some latent radical politics (anti-war, anti-imperialism, environmentalism etc)

he probably leans towards narcissism like all the elite but in a way that almost seems deserved; he knows he's an intelligent and capable person and has proven it through action. using rich guy stuff to do some legit work instead of blowing it on drugs and anti-human projects

the whole chapo theory that he is just another Napoleon but without wars to fight he became the Napoleon of Movies sometimes makes sense to me

if we had socialism this guy would be leading some transnational research organization or something i don't think he'd be making movies except as a hobby

Cameron made three of the best sci-fi action movies of all time, but sure, he’s known for “blue CGI movies”.
