An Evening on Köpenicker Straße’ marks pianist-composer Belle Chen’s first public appearance in Berlin during Spring 2025, an event highly anticipated by her Berlin fans. The evening took place at an experimental music recording studio (Morphine Raum) hidden away in an industrial estate on Köpenicker Straße.

Performing across piano, synthesizers, and electric pianos, Chen juxtaposes her original works with spontaneous improvisations throughout the evening. This EP features highlights from the unforgettable evening that transformed the industrial Berlin space into an imaginary rainforest: at times vulnerable and intimate (‘Three Birds,’ ‘Closer to Rain’), and other times resilient and virtuosic (‘The Dragonfly,’ ‘My Deers’). Imagination and colourful textures form the central thread throughout the evening, reaching a pinnacle in ‘Tonight We Gather As Insects’ where audience members were invited to collectively form an insect-inspired sonic backdrop to a live improvisation across pianos, synthesizers, electronics and keys.
