Custom Domains
Custom domains are only available for beta testers and accounts with a verified email address.
Custom domains allow you to use your own domain to show your BeeSocial profile. For example, if you owned reallycooldomain.com, it could show your profile at beesocial.dev/@reallcooldomain.
Setting up a custom domain requires 3 steps.
Add a domain to your profile
You must already own the domain before adding it to your profile.
If you need to buy a domain, we recommend namecheap.com (this is an affiliate link so we make a few dollars when you click it, however we would recommend Namecheap regardless -- it's the domain registrar we use for our personal domains as well).
Create the DNS records
You need to create a record that points the domain you own to buzz.beesocial.dev. That can be done for the apex or a subdomain.
reallycooldomain.comcan point tobeesocial.dev/@reallycooldomainwww.reallycooldomain.comcan point tobeesocial.dev/@reallycooldomain
Both approaches are supported by BeeSocial!
If you are using Cloudflare for DNS, please ensure the newly created record does not have the proxy, i.e. the orange cloud, enabled or your SSL/TLS mode is set to Full (Strict).
Apex
Create an apex record for your domain with the following values.
- Type: CNAME
- Name: @
- Content: buzz.beesocial.dev
- TTL: 3600
CNAME
Create a CNAME for the subdomain with the following values.
- Type: CNAME
- Name: www (this can be anything you want)
- Content: buzz.beesocial.dev
- TTL: 3600
Validate your domain
Go to your custom domain. If you receive an SSL error on your first load, wait a few minutes and try to reload the page. It is likely that your SSL certificate is being issued.
DNS records can sometimes take up to 24 hours to propagate. You can check the DNS record propagation with DNS Checker.
If you are having serious problems setting up your DNS records, please contact support with a screenshot of your DNS setup and a description of the problem.
