  • It’s not that good news goes unreported. It’s drowned out by overwhelming bad news and the hegemonic narrative.

For example, people receiving healthcare under other states is completely opposed to the hegemonic narrative. Capitalism doesn’t give a turd about people in Pakistan, Vietnam, etc. Empire views their progress as a threat.

And, while it’s cool that an eye disease was cured, the same system is literally murdering humanity and destroying the planet.

  • I would recommend Julia. I switched to Julia from Python because (IMO) it’s much faster and has better libraries.

For example, when I made videos with Python, I would have to save images and then convert to video with ffmpeg. But Julia has a library to generate videos on the fly without saving images. This is massively faster. They might have a library like this for Python now, but I’m not going back.

I don’t want to post any of my work because of anonymity, but it’s mostly animations of fractals, dynamic systems, etc.

  • Math terminology is so shitty sometimes.

The names in the number hierarchy are one of my favorite examples: natural, integer. rational, real, complex/imaginary. WTF? These terms are all misleading and completely removed from the underlying mathematical concepts. It’s terrible for math education, etc.

I would propose instead something like: counting numbers, negatives (?), fractions, number line, number plane… Or anything remotely equivalent, where the terms reflect the actual mathematics instead of some outdated, pseudo-scientific intuition.

“These numbers are real and these numbers are imaginary.” - Math still in the 21st century. It’s embarrassing. Symptomatic of wider rot in math education.
