World News•Trump says Palestinians have ‘no alternative’ but to leave GazaEnglish
2·1 year agoTheir message didn’t seem to be “vote blue no matter what.” They’re saying that you should get directly involved with the party, and very very few people actually do. Support a local candidate’s run for office or run yourself. I think there’s a lot to criticize about the Democrat party, but ONLY doing that is kinda part of the problem.
The US is a two party system. If the US is salvageable, we have to work to pull the Democratic party back to the left - unless we get major voting reform to move away from first past the post , which is obviously not going to happen under republican rule.

10·2 years agoI mean, they are literally clickbait. They want you to wonder what the best part of Alan Wake is or what the best soullike of 2023 is. It’s just an evolution of clickbait, but it’s still very much clickbait.

3·2 years agoVisual Basic is still alive in MANY company codebases across the world. It’s not a great language for developers, but it’s a perfectly acceptable first language and still used professionally.

Gaming•Should I stick with The Outer Wilds? (EDIT: yes)English
1·2 years agoExplore and be curious. Have you visited every planet? Have you been using the ship logs when you’re not sure what to do next?
The game is 100% about exploring and learning about the world.

5·2 years agoI mean, it’s the main mechanic of the game, and happens in the first 22 minutes of the game. I would not describe that as a “major spoiler” but it is neat when it just happens suddenly.

11·3 years agoWhy are we posting news from 2019? How did this get this upvoted and nobody noticed? I get that this sucks and the rich people in this situation are garbage, but this does nothing but stoke rage. There are plenty of examples of rich people being garbage in 2023.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•in a general sense, how would you feel about people having their pet dog(s) in the workplace?
1·3 years agoTIL Lemmy hates dogs?
My office allowed dogs, and the dog was always super chill and never made a sound. Honestly it sounds dumb, but it’s good when I see a dog. It makes me happy.
Obviously a poorly behaved dog would suck. I feel like it’s implied that bringing a dog into work means that the dog has to be well behaved.

World News@lemmy.ml•Boy, 6, boasted about shooting Virginia teacher Abigail ZwernerEnglish
4·3 years agoReal question… Why is this kind of thing posted to World News? It’s a horrifying story, but it’s also one incident in one location. Me knowing about it doesn’t help me or anyone else in any way. I guess you could hope that it inspires some gun owners to better secure their firearms, but that’s about it.
This kinda one-off incidents were all over Reddit. It just exists to stoke people’s anger most of the time, but it’s also super easy to push a specific agenda by posting these horrible, local stories.

196@lemmy.blahaj.zone•Anti-choice origin (rule)
16·3 years agoGetting people riled up about abortion allowed them to get a large segment of voters to support their party. Anti-choice people are largely emotional, single-issue voters. Once you’ve convinced people that your opponents want to allow “baby killing”, you can pretty much count on their votes without having to actually cater to their needs.

5·3 years agoImportant to note that many people don’t believe that the way things are is “stable”. It isn’t just “change it to be better than just stable,” it’s "get most people to be stable instead of just the rich people who are stable already "

Climate@slrpnk.net•Why are women more concerned about climate change than men?5·3 years agoWhile it wasn’t my experience either, it has been the experience of some men that I talk to, and if you ever look at how conservative men talk, you can see that the “traditional man” concept is still being pushed on them.
If does seem like it’s getting better, but as you said, it definitely depends on your social and family circles.

He also helped create and stars in Los Espookies, which is really really good, though a bit weird. It’s on HBO Max.

boardgames@feddit.de•*Permanently Deleted*English
1·3 years agoThat’s totally fair. I’ve only really played up to about level 4 or 5 of some adversaries. The “we’re gonna win for sure in a few turns” happens less on higher difficulty, but it did still happen. The events deck helps by being another unpredictable element that can hurt your plans.

2·3 years agoThe only real negative points that Spirit Island gets from me is that it can be a bit anticlimactic. This is true for a lot of coop games, but it seems like we always know about 2-3 turns in advance that we’re gonna win. Then you’re just kinda going through the motions. The events expansion helps a bit here but doesn’t solve it entirely.
It’s still definitely my favorite coop for sure.

2·3 years agoI have a Pixel 5a and have the same issues in maps. It loves to replace the dot on the map (which seems accurate) with the giant “low accuracy” text, which just gets in the way. When I “calibrate” it has me take pictures of the area around me.
I don’t want to be a conspiracy nut but it feels purposeful so that they can just get more photo data. I wish I could just turn the “calibration” off and just let me be in “low accuracy” mode.

That’s wild to me that you like YT music’s ux more. What recommendation things do you like about YT music?
I find Yt music to be really frustrating. I liked Google play music, but the awkward integration with YouTube is weird. Why are my liked YouTube videos, by default, mixed up with my liked songs? Who would want that ever?

1·3 years agoSmall nitpick, but it’s just *Outer Wilds", no “The”. It gets confused a lot for 'The Outer Worlds" which is that Fallout type game that came out around the same time. Outer Wilds is incredible though.

I can look at old code that I wrote and feel good about the growth I’ve made.
I also can look at old code I wrote, which I need to understand/update, and be really annoyed at my past self.
How annoyed I am is entirely based on what I need to do to the code right now. The fact is, it’s way easier to be annoyed at myself than annoyed at other people.
