i’ve gone snowboarding a few times. haven’t been able to afford it for years though.
how rich is “rich person” - because my relative scale is so bad that being in a car with heated seats feels very “rich person” even though it’s more like upper-middle class (if I’m not mistaken)
if “rich person” is more like top 1%, I’m not sure there’s anything I’ve done that’s “rich person”:
- never been on a yacht (let alone owned one),
- never influenced an election or supported an illegal coup in another country to support my business interests,
- never owned a sex slave
- never used my extensive surveillance apparatus to stalk someone
- never coordinated a massacre of workers and their families for trying to improve their working conditions
- and, perhaps the most “rich person” thing in this particular moment, I’ve never been to Epstein’s island.
Buy sandwiches every week. In my defence, they’re damn good ones!
I am amazed at how expensives sandwiches are these days. Even the cheap supermarket ones are no longer cheap.
wow!
… i sleep on expensive Italian/belgian linen sheets…
Go to Michelin starred restaurants. I’m too poor to justify going to these places but my mom likes to take me out for my birthday, and I really love food so I will inevitably agree after a very feeble protest.
this, too, is my weakness - good food is good food; I don’t need nice presentation, wait staff, etc. - I just crave excellent food.
I’ve lived on Queen Mary 2 for almost a year.
Granted, I was working aboard at the time, but still…

I’ve tasted tea in a teahouse that would be over $1000 a pound.
I mean, to be fair a pound of tea is a LOT of tea by volume.
It’s a few months’ supply, yes. I probably go through about five pounds a year.
I bought a piece of outdoor furniture yesterday. The nice kind of outdoor furniture which won’t immediately rot in the Pacific Northwest.
…but just one piece.
I may buy a house soon if I get real lucky.
meanwhile 90% of Chinese people own their homes, and of those 80% own their home outright (no mortgage or other liens)
not sure we should consider home ownership “rich person” stuff, tbh - though it breaks my heart that this is what it has come to
I don’t splurge much on clothes, technology, vehicles, food, etc…but every month I do get a professional massage (get your head out of the gutter …totally non-sexual). Helps with all the muscle tension that builds up from daily stress from everything (work, life, anything). If you’ve never had one, I highly suggest trying it out at least once.
I only fly once a year, and I save like a madwoman so I can buy business or first class.
Granted I do it because my health turns flying tourist into a waking nightmare with week-long consequences.
This got me to be picked up by a limousine once. It was excruciatingly awkward.
I can say from experience that I prefer riding in a Maybach over a Bentley, and driving a pre-war Bugatti is infinitely more fun than one of the modern ones.
If I skip certain details, my life sounds intensely fancy. I’m writing this message from a 5 star hotel room, for example. But the reality is much more down-to-earth, and I’m thankful for the things I have :-)
